Trump verdict

Live on bbc now, guilty on all counts. Can he still run for
election? Might the US be led from behind bars? Or will Biden
trump him (pun intended, sorry)?

This is too much even for his most die-hard supporters.
All I wish is he would just fade into obscurity.

Very true Lyn, it is with profound sadness that I hear the
verdicts on 32 counts*.
The American justice system requires faith in its verdicts and
anyone, anyone at all who does not agree with them , such as the
guilty who expresses this view will have his sentence increased,
over that which would noramally occur. THat is wrong. The
second point is that the Americans (50% of them) almost worship
the office of President of the United States. God only requires
worship.
*THat should read 34 counts.

In any sensible country a conviction like this, which will
probably lead to a prison sentence, would debar him from
political office automatically, but there's still talk of him
standing.

He might prefer to sit that one out. I doubt he will go to
prison, I think we will gradually hear less and less of the man.
However, I dread to think who the Republicans will drag up now
as an icon.

As an ex speech writer for President Bush ( A Canadian whose
name I forget*) said on CBC news last night.
"Let us not elect a convicted felon, let us elect a non
convicted felon."
*I remember his name now: it is David Frum. His mother used to
broadcast on "Has It Happens" on CBC radio in the evening.

From what I can gather, this conviction will have no effect on
Trump’s supporters. The majority of Trump’s base have been
brainwashed to believe only a few news sources are truthful. The
rest are propaganda. Their trusted sources are spinning this as
a witch hunt using bits and pieces of actual quotes or events.
They will never see the news that has covered the trial and
revealed evidence that supports the conviction. This is why his
base continues to grow and support him. Most don’t know or trust
what is actually happening.
Anyway, the short of it is this will have no impact on whether
he can be the next president. If anything, it just might have
sealed his win. His base are now flooding his campaign with even
more money to make sure he wins.

In other words, Leslie, if a person doesn't get caught, he can
still be elected.tha
Beverly, I wouldn't disagree about the press and the media in
general, they cannot be trusted. Once they've got it in for
someone, they can say anything and God help that person. We see
that here all the time. However, I mistrust Trump even more.than
the media.

Yes, gwinnie Biden can still be elected. I hope they stop mail
in ballots or at least ensure that proper reporting measures are
taken. The validity of the last Presidential election was
questioned. No one know exactly how accurate the results were.
Have measures to eliminate fraud been taken? One wonders!

It is totally crazy that Trump's supporters will still vote for
him to be president again even if he is sent to prison. :o
I see there is now a 'Republicans Against Trump' group, whom I
came across on Twitter, when I posted on that forum, but I have
now deleted my membership.
