Thanks for the information, Lyn. I remember meeting a store
owner in Tel Aviv who was upset because fundamentalist Jews did
not do Army service. I remember a photo of myself taken with a
Jewish girl in army uniform.THat group had weapons with them.
So I did meet more Jews than I can remember. This chatter is a
change from writing about the war in Gaza. And more pleasant.

There is a fair bit of resentment amongst Israelis against the
Ultra-Orthodox Jews (who do not care for that label), because
they are exempt from military service. Also, some sects, eg the
Satmar (originating in Hungary), do not believe Israel is the
promised land and speak out against it, even have big public
meetings denouncing Israel. They are known to be quite arrogant.
Yet they are happy to live in Israel and take advantage of its
many benefits.
Other groups, like the Chabad-Lubabitch (with Polish roots), do
believe in Israel, are very mystical and believe in the
afterlife (some sects don't, they hold that there is only this
life that should concern us). They revere the late 'Rebbe',
Menachem Mendel Schneerson, many of them convinced he was the
Moshiach. They display pictures of him, and of his house in
Crown Heights, Brooklyn. He made no such claim, had great
humility, was a good, kind, wise and just man, universally
respected.
There are so many different sects, each believing in different
things and varying in customs, but united in being Jewish. They
all say where there are two Jews, there will be three opinions.
It's fascinating.

Israel doesn’t want peace. They won’t rest until they’ve
achieved their long-desired dream of owning all of Gaza.
In a comparison between American Indians and Palestinians, I ran
across an article published by L.Frank Baum in response to the
massacre at Wounded Knee. There, he recommended their complete
annihilation. “Having wronged them for centuries, we had
better…follow it up by one more wrong and wipe these untamed and
untamable creatures from the face of the earth.”
The same is true in Israel. They’ve wronged the Palestinians for
decades using terrorism as an excuse to slowly take control of
more and more land.
Despite propaganda fed to Americans living nearby, Wounded Knee
was a gathering of Lakota Indian--men, women, and children—-who
believed a prophecy that Jesus was returning as a Lakota and was
going to usher in peace between the Indians and Americans and
return them to their native way of life. Those who carried out
the massacre believed what Baum did that wiping them out was the
only safe solution—even if it was wrong.

Interesting, Bev. Though this is not the same thing, the LDS
believe they share lineage with native Americans whom they
consider to be their spiritual brothers. The struggles of the
Indians is chronicled in the Book of Mormon.
I too do not think Israel will be happy until it has got rid of
Palestinians, however I doubt they will achieve that. When I
talk about Israel being happy or not, I obviously do not mean
individual Israelis, many of whom do not feel that the war
against Palestinians should continue. All the Palestinians want
is peace and to live their lives in Gaza and that isn't much to
ask. However, they do have supporters in the Islamic world who
may be less benign.
It is a frightening situation. The UK and the USA have been
selling arms to Israel; there was talk of that stopping, I don't
know if it has but I certainly think it should.
It is really good to have you back posting generally rather than
just on the games. An American point of view is important on
many issues and you are our only one.

I cannot comment on Wounded Knee, except to say, such
comparisons with Israel, from what you said are odious.Israel
occupied Gaza in 1967, and Palestinians were responsible for
good government since Jan 20,1996. Israel captured Gaza from
Egypt in 1967. In Jan 2006 a victory by Hamas over Mahmoud
Abbas, led to elections and Hamas ousted power from Abbas.
Hamas has been largely in control of Gaza since 2022. Population
of Gaza in 2022 was 1,997,328 and the area of Gaza is 139 square
miles.

The State of Israel is 8,630 sq miles with a population of
approximately 9.558 m people. Just as Israel took over various
bits of land, the Palestinians have taken over Gaza. There is
no reason why they cannot peacefully co-exist.

The population of Egypt is 107,770,524 people (Arabic is the
official language) and the land area is 384,345 sq.miles. Seeing
the Gazatans were part of Egypt before the 1967 war, Israel
should send them back there where there is plenty of room for
them.

That sounds like history repeating itself. Jews throughout
history were run out of many countries, including here in the
13th century under Edward 1. People who have settled, built
homes and families, in a country should be allowed to call it
home and stay. They could maybe go somewhere else but who wants
to uproot and go to another strange land when they like where
they are? It's inhumane. Palestinians and other groups were
living and settled in Gaze prior to 1948.

What an absolute insult to the indigenous Arabs of Palestine,
these tribes have lived in these lands for thousands of years,
they are not Egyptian
What do you mean Israel should send them back?
Have you the slightest idea of the culture and history of
Palestine and its people, you really need to read up on their
history
Israel is the invader in this case, it is many of these Jewish
migrant settlers who are allowed to live in the West Bank that
should be sent back, these are from many countries that Israel
allows and even pays then up to $25,000 to settle in the West
Bank illegally, these criminals have no right to these lands,
teh Israeli authorities turna blind eye and allows them to steal
lands and destroy homes and businesses of the Palestinians who
have lived here for centuries.
