As always, you are well informed, Val. Thank you for that post.
I don't want to pile on Leslie but by now we surely all know
that he does not read around a subject and is in fact extremely
selective with his reading. He is a Christian who is, or has
been in favour of Donald Trump (who has compared himself to
Jesus), and I have never understood that.
Going back to the point of this thread, Christians don't have a
particularly good record when it comes to conflict, the crusades
for example (someone on facebook thinks we should go back to the
time of the 'glorious' crusades, fighting the infidel, when
England had a backbone, and you would be surprised how many
agree, it is shocking). The treatment of Jews by Christians, or
those purporting to be Christian, has historically been
shameful. In Northern Ireland, Christian fought Christian. In
Syria, Christians have persecuted Albanian Muslims, forcing them
       to flee their country.
My view is that, if we are only prepared to look at these issues
through a narrow lens, it is far better not to voice a strong
opinion but to be frank, saying we don't understand but wish and
       pray for a peaceful solution.

I do not attack those of us who have different views on Israel
of being non Christian as you do Val.Your account is one sided
propaganda and does not explain why Israel did those things, if
indeed they did them at all.
Israel has been very constrained in its war against Hamas which
does not have uniformed soldiers but puts the citizens of Gaza
in danger by hiding among them. After all Hamas started this
bloody war on October 7th last year by murdering, innocent
Jewish people attending a music festival in their own country,
       Israel.
       Long live Israel!

       Good morning Leslie.
You really should read up on the subject of Israel and their
ongoing illegal occupation of the West Bank
BBC rand a program last night regarding this very issue, a team
of BBC reporters went to the West Bank to do a documentary on
       this.
And the behaviour of the IDF against Palestinians was
disgusting, as was the behaviour of the illegal settlers,
children are being openly shot, from 2 years up, one 8 year old
boy playing in the street was shot in the back of his head a 15
year old was shot dead along side him, thet were targeted by an
Israeli soldier from an armoured jeep, this is an regular
occurance, the IDF broke into homes and destroyed everything,
TV's, radios, cookers, washing machine, fridges they wrote
slogans on the walls and urinated on their beds, they shot a man
outside his home in front of his family and urinated on his
body, that's just was in the first few minutes of the film

Leslie, fair enough, but when I read the review of the book I
didn't think the writer was being too personal about the book's
author. In fact, he seemed almost apologetic when saying
anything negative. I will have to read it again to see what I
       missed.
       .................
Now I will open Val's link.
Done. Val, it is truly a heart-breaking situation. War always
       means some innocent casualties.

One man's evidence is good enough for you because he is opposing
Hamas and their nastiness, so all the other evidence from a
multitude of unbiased reporting of war crimes in Gaza and in the
West Bank is of no interest to you.
This really shows that no matter what they do, or how many
children and innocent civilians they kill, Israel in the right
       to you.
That shows a closed mind isincapable of discerning the awful
       reality of this criminal regime

Exactly. There are atrocities on all sides in any war; whatever
the outcome, no side ever completely covers itself in glory.
History is full of stories of such horrors.
  HTML https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/may/08/us-signals-to-israel-more-arms-shipmen
That would be good but whey the USA is supplying arms to Israel
in the first place is beyond me. Money I suppose, everything
comes down to that in the end.

No point in replying to Val's latest ad hominem attack as I
have a closed mind - according to him. I would not want to
confuse him by reminding him of the facts of the situation
which he already has in front of him, as I have explained the
Hamas versus Israel war already -and he cannot see it - so what
is the point of continuing my discussion with Val.
