Local, Mayoral and Police Commissioner elections, May 2nd 2024
By: Stephen Horsfall Date: April 23, 2024, 8:59 am

Hertfordshire has got a PCC election, and I've just completed my
postal vote, and will post it when it isn't pissing down. I
voted Green. I haven't bothered voting for PCCs before, since I
don't think we should have them - they are a Tory gimmick which
replaced Police Authorities, but I want to vote against the
bastard Tory bastards as much as possible. It's also the first
time I've voted by poste - I didn't want to risk my ID - my old
fart's bus pass - being rejected, as I've trimmed my beard since
the photo was taken. The new requirement for ID at polling
stations is a rather desperate attempt by the Tories to fiddle
the vote, since it is weighed against young people, who are less
likely to vote Tory. They're also trying to fiddle the mayoral
votes - they abolished the former semi- PR system of voting, and
went back to FPTP, which also works in their favour, since there
are more left-wing parties than right-wing.

I suddenly realised I was on the other side. What I saw was an
unruly mob of self-indulgent middle-class hooligans. *When I
asked my friends what they wanted, what were they trying to
achieve, all I got back was this ludicrous Marxist gobbledegook.
I was disgusted by it, and thought there must be a way back to
the defence of western civilization against these things. That's
when I became a conservative. I knew I wanted to conserve things
rather than pull them down.[14]

Two posters with extreme views, albeit the second one expressed
a quotation from someone else.
Though I would not vote Conservative, not all Tories are
bastards and not all leftish protesters are hooligans who spout
nothing but Marxism.

We seem to have strayed from the thread topic somewhat.

Blackpool by-election won comfortably by Labour, and Tory
councillors falling like flies, mostly to Labour, but also to
smaller parties. In Blackpool the Tories just managed by a
whisker to avoid coming third to Reform, the new hard-right
party that used to be called the Brexit party, founded by Nigel
Farage.

Oh, Farage, he never gives up. He is quite dangerous because he
has a pleasant, engaging manner. He's the sort of chap you'd
quite like as a neighbour or colleague, if you didn't know his
politics. I watched him on IACGMOOH and he was great on that, a
really good sport.
I didn't vote because I hadn't got my act together. My wish is
that Sadiq Khan stays as mayor despite the ULEZ outcry from some
people. I think he is a good man who cares passionately about
London and Londoners but nobody can
please everyone or do everything.
