I dropped a big box of tins on my right foot three days ago and
it is swollen and red. However, better today than yesterday so
the bruise and lump are healing. I've been hobbling around with
a stick. I am pleased with the improvement today but very tired
with the ache, so can't be bothered with internet much. I'll be
back on here soon enough and my problem is not as bad as others.
There is some good, soothing medication music on youtube which
helps with sleep. I have found it helpful sometimes. Some of
it is without any lyrics/words and others, gently Christian.

I have to say, I’m with gwinnie on feeling like getting on a
plane and coming over there to escort you to a doctor. And, then
I would see the sights. 😄 My concern is sepsis, and we
all know how bad that could be. If you can muster the strength,
please get the leg looked at.

Lyn that sounds so painful. Dare I ask if you got it looked at
by a health professional? Lump could mean a fracture.

Yes, sorry to hear that, Lyn and hope it improves as quickly as
possible. I know now what an impediment (literally) on normal
activity any problem with the legs or feet can be, especially at
our age.
I've had the leg looked at, Bev - I've just looked at it myself.
:D Seriously, though, there is no open wound as such. The fluid
is seeping through a small, round patch of translucent skin and
is not connected with any blood flow, and I'm keeping it clean
with every change of dressing. So, sepsis seems highly unlikely.
Further on Lyn's post, I've read about such techniques for
getting to sleep, including meditation itself and breathing
exercises as well as gentle music but I'm afraid such things
don't really work with me, not least as my overactive mind would
be shooting off at tangents during it or the effort initially
involved in it would be counter-productive. Thanks anyway,
though.

Thank you, Greg, it is improving and I know what you mean about
meditation music not always working, but it does sometimes.
Gwinnie, there is no fracture and, no, I have not seen a medic
but I know there's no fracture, just bump and bruising. It is
getting better, I can now hobble without stick.

Hope you continue on the mend, Lyn. The music you mentioned
sounds soothing. To Greg’s darting thoughts when trying
meditation or mindfulness, in my experience it takes practice in
refocusing. With time, you get better at staying focused on that
one thing, whatever it is. One’s breath seems most popular. I’ve
found brown noise the most effective for me. Prayers continue
for you, Greg.

Greg, do put some antiseptic on your leaking spot and there is
something you can buy called ALLICIN MAX (it is 'nature's
antibacterial'), and it does work. You take it orally and can
get it from Amazon amongst other places. I had a bad boil a
while back and it cleared it up in no time at all.

Thanks for the tips, Lyn. I see allicin is a derivative of
garlic and I've often eaten raw garlic when I've felt a cold or
sore throat coming on. Or I just mash a clove up in a mortar
with a little oil to lessen the harsh effect. Still, I'll have a
look in my local health products shop.
I'm not really a very self-disciplined person, Bev, and I just
wouldn't have the patience to train my mercurial mind in those
skills, especially as they're mental and more fluid than
physical ones. I did try one of the breath techniques from
Youtube to get off to sleep the other night (start a reverse
count down from 100 and the result should soon kick in.) I got
to zero but not forty winks... As for brown noise, there's no
way I could have any contraption near my face. A neighbour has
apnea and has to wear a special mask to control her breathing.
Not for me - no way I could end up looking like Hannibal Lector.

Different things work for different people, For me activities
such as swimming lengths or drawing a picture or gardening or
listening to classical music are also meditative. It is not so
much about stilling thoughts, rather it is to focus on one thing
so that extraneous thoughts (such as “did I switch off the
iron?” “I must remember to get brown bread”, and “when is the
general election?”) fall away.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before but one factor which
has a great effect on me is the humidity in the air and
Barcelona being on the coast often has high levels. It can wake
me up in the night (or be there from going to bed) and it makes
me feel very uncomfortable and 'enveloped' and difficult to get
off to sleep again, a major contributor to my insomnia, with
nothing I can do about it. I've had a bad night, but not
surprising with overnight levels (checked online) at 95% when
the 'comfort' level is around 60%. Just my luck to have a body
very sensitive to temperature changes and other influences.
Throw in being a light sleeper and...
