Iran and its proxies
By: Gregory Date: December 24, 2023, 3:22 am

The situation in the lower Red Sea is becoming more serious by
the day with constant attacks on shipping by the Iran-backed
Houthi rebels in Yemen. Here's an extract from an interview with
Foreign Secretary, Lord Cameron, in today's Telegraph which
centres on the growing threat from the Islamofascist Iranian
regime. (I'm not putting the link itself due to paywall problems
for non-subscribers.)
“Iran is a thoroughly malign influence in the region and in the
world – there’s no doubt about that. You’ve got the Houthis,
you’ve got Hezbollah in Lebanon, you’ve got the Iranian-backed
militias in Iraq that have actually been attacking British and
American bases and troops and, of course, Hamas. So you’ve got
all of these proxies, and I think it’s incredibly important
that, first of all, Iran receives a very clear message that this
escalation will not be tolerated.
Second of all, we need to work with our allies to develop a
really strong set of deterrent measures against Iran, and it’s
important that we do that. The level of danger and insecurity in
the world is at an extremely high level compared with previous
years and decades, and the Iran threat is a part of that
picture.”
Lord Cameron said he was “extremely concerned” about the Houthi
attacks “because the freedom of shipping and maritime security
are incredibly important not just for Britain, but actually the
whole world”.
It should be added that Iran is close to developing nuclear
weapons.

It's reported that a drone evidently fired from Iran has hit a
tanker in the Indian Ocean while the American-led task force in
the Red Sea to fight the Houti rebels is gathering strength.
Elements in what is surely a coming huge regional conflict in
which the war in Gaza plays a significant part.

What pressure can Iran put on the USA which justifies inaction
from the USA? Iran can practically build the A bomb already and
would have no hesitation in using it against Israel.
Israel in the past I remember bombed Iran's A bomb equipment and
storage centres. Perhaps the USA is relying on Israel to do it
again.

From a recent article:
"Even though US President Joe Biden’s speedy initiative in
dispatching two American aircraft carriers to the region is
thought to have deterred an all-out onslaught on Israel by
Hezbollah, the US has continued to ignore most of the dozens of
attacks on its own assets by Iranian-backed militias."
Fortunately, that might seem to be changing (an article today):
"President Biden has ordered the US military to carry out
retaliatory strikes against Iranian-backed militia groups after
three US service members were injured in a drone attack in
northern Iraq. The Baghdad government condemned that it killed
one Iraqi serviceman and wounded 18 other people, adding that it
harmed relations between the two countries."
The Iraqi government, dominated by Shia Muslims (who also rule
Iran and Lebanon through Hezbollah) has long been a servile
proxy of the Iranian regime so any hypocritical objections fall
on stony ground. Hopefully the tide will be turning against
militant Islam in the Middle East and, above all, its
clericofascist puppetmasters in Iran.

Iran's threat to attack sites in Israel following the latter's
destructive missile attack on an Iranian embassy building in
Syria the other day is being taken very seriously, not least by
the American administration. It's unusual as it's generally held
that Iran doesn't wish to become embroiled in a dangerous
regional conflict. We'll soon see if that policy has changed.

According to the news I hear, Israel has not said it was
responsible for the the attack on Iran's Embassy in Syria.
If Iran does attack Israel I am certain Israel will retaliate.

Israel generally denies such attacks, which is a good policy:
keep the enemy guessing. The same with Israel's nuclear arsenal.
Officially, it has no nuclear weapons, but it is known to have
around 90 nuclear warheads and missiles, some on the five
nuclear submarines Israel has on perpetual standby and in
unknown maritime locations.
