1. Net Opening & Preamble
[*]K4WZV (Robert): Opens the TGIF Net on Talk Group 31665.
Thank God it's Friday. TGIF. Good evening everybody. This is
K4WZV, Kilo-4 Whiskey Zooming Victor. My name is Robert, opening
up the TGIF net. This net is conducted every single Friday at
830 p.m. Eastern on the TGIF server, Talk Group 31665, for the
discussion of a pre-selected subject or other amateur radio
topics. Emergency traffic may be indicated by triple break and
will be accepted at any time during the net. Probably be better
to do is just call 9-1-1 if there is an emergency. This is a
directed net. Please do not transmit unless you are directed to
do so by the net control station. When you check into tonight's
net, we just need your call sign only, and please say it
phonetically too. For example, this is K4WZV, Kilo-4 Whiskey
Zulu Victor.

Discussed open-mindedness toward new technologies (DMR,
Talklink) and pushed back against operators who claim
network/digital modes are "not real ham radio."

operators to calibrate gain and microphone distance using
echo/parrot talk groups (9990) or local receivers.

non-standard or "weird" phonetics being passed on to newer hams.

K4WZV's signal. Discussed repeater timeout etiquette, the

passed away during a live net, emphasizing police-in-private or

key-ups and proposed the term "Network Radio Operator" for
digital/POC radio users.

rather than criticizing them publicly on air.

help people privately, though noted many operators decline to do
so.

offline via phone calls to prevent embarrassing new hams on open

I want to thank a few people. First of all, I want to thank
Mitch Savage, EA7KDO. Mitch created the TGIF network on the
Raspberry Pi back in the day. He unfortunately is a silent key,
and Mitch will always be remembered for what he contributed to
the hobby, amateur radio, what he contributed to the Nextion
screens, and then to the TGIF, of course. So rest in peace,
Brother Mitch. I also want to thank Ty Weaver, KG5RKI, for the
code that Ty started with to get TGIF doing what it does... Andy
G7LRR... Glenn N3MEL, KG5CDK, and Mark VE2CH... Joe WB3IHY...
