Ham Radio Swap Meet:
[*]KF5MG offered a VHF CS811 (Part 90 certified), a CS3000
platform radio, and several ex-blue Voice over IP telephones for
anyone looking to get into Hams over IP.
Field Day 2026 Reports:
[]Steve reported outrageously bad weather at the Outer Banks
(Wright Brothers Memorial), forced to tear down his antenna
after 15 minutes due to lightning.
[]Robert (K4WZV) operated from his home shack using a Xiegu
G90 running 20 watts into a battery pack. He racked up 144
contacts, including a surprising 12 contacts on 6-meter voice
using an Alpha Delta DXCC antenna.
[*]W3TEZ operated from a friend's acreage in New York using a
Yaesu FTDX1200, a 30-foot telescoping flagpole, and a 132-foot
MFJ end-fed antenna. He had major success on the 15, 40, and
75-meter bands running under 50 watts.
DMR Network Comparison (TGIF vs. BrandMeister):
[]Greg (KG5EO) from Maricopa, Arizona, asked how TGIF
differs from the BrandMeister network.
[]Robert (K4WZV), Joe (KB3JQQ), and Joe (WB3IHY) explained
that TGIF grants full administrative autonomy to individual
talkgroup owners. Unlike BrandMeister, there are no network-wide
"radio police" or rigid transmission time limits, making TGIF a
friendlier, more flexible environment for experimentation and
learning.
