🎙️ Preamble & Call to Order
QCQCQ. Welcome to the TGIF Radio Net for Friday, May the 8th of
2026. My name is Eric, and my call sign is KC8UKB. We meet here
every Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on the
TGIF Server Talk Group 31665 to chat about a chosen topic and
anything else related to amateur radio.
Tonight's subject is "What is your longest contact?" Emergency
traffic may be indicated by a triple break and will be accepted
at any time during the net. Please remember, this is a directed
net, so please only transmit when directed to do so by the net
control station.

🌍 Discussion: Longest Amateur Radio Contacts
The following stations shared their notable DX (Long Distance)
experiences:
[]WB3IHY (Joe): Recorded a contact of 11,633 miles, likely
via FT8 to the farthest geographical tip of Australia.
[]KC1LKO (Miguel): Shared a 10,000-mile contact from
Monhegan Island, Maine, to Tasmania using 100W on a vertical
antenna.
[]KM9Q (Scott): Achieved a 5,650-mile contact from Florida
to Moscow, Russia, using only 5 watts (QRP) on an ICOM IC703.
[]K4WZV (Robert): Recalled a rare propagation event where he
heard the "long path" echo of his own voice returning to him
after traveling around the world.
[]WD8KOB: Logged a first-contact success to New Zealand
immediately after installing a new Mosley 10-20m beam antenna.
[]KB3JQQ: Recounted "shooting fish in a barrel" during solar
cycle 24, using a 400W mobile setup to reach England, New
Zealand, and Greenland.
[*]K5GU: Reported a successful mobile contact from North Texas
to Hawaii on the 20m band.

🛠️ Net Announcements & Marketplace

and a Retevis/Aliance HD2 dual-band radio for sale.
