       Thank you, thank you, thank you! Welcome to the TGIF Radio Net
       for Friday, April 10th, 2026. My name is Eric, call sign KC8UKB.
       We meet here every Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. EST on the TGIF
       server, talkroom 31665, to chat about a chosen topic and
       anything else related to amateur radio.
       Tonight’s topic is separate receive and transmit antennas for HF
       radios.

       Net Control noted some BER issues due to Starlink connection,
       but most stations were copying okay.
       Marketplace
       No items were offered for buy, sell, or trade.
       Main Topic: Separate RX/TX Antennas for HF
       Eric (KC8UKB) is upgrading his main rig and narrowing it down to
       the Yaesu FT-DX10 versus the Icom IC-7300 Mark II. He likes the
       large waterfall display on both radios. The IC-7300 Mark II
       offers a dedicated receive-only antenna port, which sparked the
       discussion.
       One station shared that he uses an SDRplay RSP Duo with a simple
       100-foot loop of 16-gauge insulated wire laid on the ground
       around the backyard. It hears almost everything his IC-7100
       hears with an Alpha Delta DX-CC inverted on a 40-foot tower.
       Robert (K4WZV):
       Experimented with separate antennas. Requires good physical
       separation and a relay/switch box to protect the receive input
       during transmit. Benefits include significant noise reduction.
       Suggested low-noise receive options such as a Beverage antenna
       or a wire run just above the ground.
       Noel:
       Loop-on-Ground (LoG) antennas work very well on lower bands
       (160m, 80m, 40m) but are not effective on higher bands (20m and
       up). Beverage antennas are long straight wires placed a few feet
       off the ground on posts and perform similarly to LoG for receive
       purposes.
       General consensus: Separate receive antennas are excellent for
       noise reduction, especially in HOA environments, but proper
       protection for the radio’s RX input is essential when
       transmitting.
       Radio Comments – FT-DX10 vs IC-7300 Mark II
       WB3GTM:
       Owns both an FT-DX101 (primary) and an FT-DX10. Called the DX10
       “a pretty doggone good radio.” Said if he had tried the DX10
       before the 101, he might not have bought the 101. Noted the
       receiver in the DX10 is very similar to the 101. Has never
       personally used a dedicated receive antenna setup unless having
       several hundred feet of space. Suggested making the separate RX
       antenna a lower priority unless space allows good separation.
       Overall, both radios are solid, but he considers the DX10 more
       advanced.
       Eric mentioned he is now leaning back toward the FT-DX10 after
       the feedback.
       Other Notes
       Robert (K4WZV) commented on the Artemis mission coverage where
       astronauts had trouble with the push-to-talk function on the
       satellite radio, which provided some light entertainment.
