A Good Night's Sleep

Nova quickly paced through town, frantically searching for
whatever else she could do to earn some money. She soon noticed
a couple talking rather loudly. She had lost so much time as
four days had already passed and she had made minimal profits.
She had even resorted to mowing the grass for Ruppees.
"It's got to be Insomnia Jane, it just has to be. This is the
forth night in a row when I would just wake up at ungodly hours
and not go back to sleep. The in the middle of the day I would
fall into random microsleeps..."
"I'm not sure if that is even Insomnia Charles..."
The Zora gradually approached the two, "Excuse me, I couldn't
help but overhear, are you having trouble sleeping?" she asked.
"Why yes." said one.
"You should really mind your own business, young lady." said the
other.
"What if I told you I could offer you a way to instantly fall
asleep, when you want, starting tonight." Nova began while they
reaised their brows in skepticism and glanced at each other, "I
have a skill that commands people's conscious as to when to fall
asleep or wake."
"I'd say you're full of fish, Zora!" Charles remarked.
Nova simply smirked, "Alright, I'll prove it to you." She
brought the tentacle with the bulb at the end of it in front of
her, waited a few seconds before it started to glow. Soon enough
the stout man was knocked out in a deep sleep, snoring loudly
while his companion prevented him from falling.
"That's amazing!" Jane exclaimed.
The bulb stopped glowing and he gradually regained
consciousness, "...My word." he mumbled, "So how can you do that
for me every night?"
"And I as well." Jane added.

Nova placed a hand over her chin in thought, "Hmm, well
obviously I can't promise to go to your homes every single night
at the requested times..." she hummed to herself before noticing
that Jane was carrying an small empty bottle, "May I have that
bottle?" she asked.
The woman simply shrugged and gave it to her as Nova unraveled a
small cloth from one of the Kunai that she still carried under
her fins.
She opened the bottle, placed the cloth over the opening and
held it up to her bulb. The bulb split open and struck the
bottle where the cloth was, biting into it and soon enough a
mostly clear, blue fluid tinkled down it, filling it to half way
before closing it. Nova then held it between her palms and
rapidly rubbed the bottle until the surface started to grow warm
and the liquids gradually faded from blue, to green and then
started to glow with a yellow hue.
"I carry fluids which activate my abilities on the dependency of
temperature." Nova explained, "My body can naturally heat up my
bulb containing this until it glows, which is what sent you off
to sleep Sir. Since this is now independent from me, I cannot
direct where this should affect, so you'll need to have physical
contact for it to work. When the temperature cools down, you
will wake. So the longer this bottle stays warm or hot, the
longer you will sleep until it cools to about room temperature."
Charles nodded but questioned, "Interesting, if that is the case
then why aren't you asleep?"
"Because I earlier forced myself to stay away in order to run
some dire errands."
"Dire?"
"I need to come up with a lot of money, fast." Nova explained
briefly, not wanting to elaborate.
"How much for a bottle then?" Charles asked.
"This should last you a good eight months, so I cannot accept
any less than eight hundred Rupees for being able to dictate
when you want to sleep. Be warned though, if you force yourself
to stay awake or sleep for far more extended periods of time,
your body might start to collapse from exhaustion or other
complications. Everyone needs sleep at least at some point in
their life."
"Eight hundred? That's quite extravagant." Jane commented, "But
I too haven't had a good night's sleep for some months now."
Nova smiled, "So how many do you need?"
The man pondered for a moment, "I'll take two, plus three more
for my friends."
"One for myself, dear." Jane said simply.
'That's 4 800 Rupees!' Nova thought excitedly.
Charles pulled out five bottles for her to fill.
The Zora only just realized the amount of bottles she had to
fill on her own. She gulped nervously, knowing full well of the
effects on her body when she used her powers too frequently
within a short period of time.

'Oh man, I can already feel the headaches, and then some
happening.' Nova thought to herself before she began the
extracting process before her thoughts ran back to the
photographs of Alastor Verity had handed to her. The Zora shook
her head, 'Sparky has been through far worse, what's a little
migraine... and extravagent, physical stress to an organ anwyay?
For Alastor, I would easily do this for him... I just hope I
won't be too late.'
One by one the Zora filled the bottle to half full for each
bottle, however which each new bottle the more painful and
difficult it became to accomplish her goal. By the third bottle,
her head was throbbing, so much so that she didn't notice that
her tentacle was starting to run out of her sleep-commanding
fluids.

By the forth bottle, Nova's ears started to ring at excessively
loud proportions over the top of her headache, causing some
blood to splutter out of them.
"Miss, are you alright?" Jane asked with concern.
Nova grimaced and simply nodded, "Just a side effect on my
ability has on me, don't worry you won't be affected because all
you have to do is heat a bottle up."
Nova finally managed to reach the fifth bottle and realised that
she was out of fluids as she just barely made the mid-way mark.
The Zora handed over the bottles to the customers as she
received the sack of Rupees before she dropped to her knees and
clutched her head in between the bag and her hands.
'Well, lesson learned. I'm not meant to be extracting those
fluids, god this HURTS!' She tapped her bulb to her forehead to
test something, feeling the effects of being wide-awake and
refreshed again. 'Hmm, seems I can still make myself, or others
stay awake. Then again, it's usually the sleeping or extracting
part that is painful.'
After what seemed close to half an hour, the headaches sub-sided
enough for her to be able to know what's happening around her.
She also thanked her customers for staying by her side until she
recovered before they parted ways.

Nova wandered through town and clutched the side of her head
with a hand. She headed towards the Milkbar, taking a seat
inside. She ordered half a dozen glasses of water, not really
thinking, tipping half of them over herself.
"Oi! Ya makin' a mess lady!" the bar tender yelled.
"Pass me a mop and I'll clean it up!" Nova snapped, feeling
irritated from the migraines from before.
She soon received a mop and cleaned up the water that had
splashed onto the floor before she started to drink the
remaining glasses.

The mercenary walked over to the young Zora and took a seat next
to her.
"You always have bad manners hun?"

Medusa almost squinted at Nova, having a good long look at her
before smiling to herself, "Even to this day you're not as tall
as most other Zora, Baby Doll."

Her smile faltered slightly before sighing, "Well of course hun,
but then again, it's been a long time. How have you been?"
