Tips for your new server
By: Opius11 Date: November 20, 2014, 8:05 pm

Hi guys,
Just some friendly tips for you regarding getting a new server
in BF4.
- Check hardware the provider is running on. (i7 cpu are ok, but
far far better is a provider using xeon server CPUs/PCs) This
has to do with virtualization, something all of them are using
for server setups.
if it was up to me, I would choose a provider costing a little
bit more if hardware is better.
- Ask a provider what kind of dedicated connection your server
will have. Higher numbers are better.
- Remember that funding is more an upfront cost than you think:
If you buy a 3 month server plan (to get some % off the price)
you all have to chip in now on that price. And you have to start
right away saving up for next 3 months. Sooooo... as an example:
if 3 months costs 150 Eur and you are 10 people, first month
will cost u 20 Eur (15 for start-up cost and 5 for the next 3
month period), second month 5 Eur and third month 5 Eur. Then
you have 150 for next 3 months as well.
- Remember it is a hazel to change provider after you have
chosen one.
- Do not host on a server in Frankfurt!!! The data centers there
are overloaded and being DDOS attacked all the time!
- Consider using Mumble
HTML http://sourceforge.net/projects/mumble/
instead of TeamSpeak.
Mumble has far better sound quality than TS, but graphical
layout is a little bit worse. Mumble is also cheaper than TS, so
you would get more slots for less price. I takes a little time
to get used to it, but if you need help you can just ask me. For
testing, you can use FSN clans Mumble server: IP: 85.17.189.117
Port : 64848. Please use your "RG" names so I can recognize u
:)
TIP: Before installing Mumble, check your sound settings in
Windows, specially microphone settings. Turn off Boost (set to
0) and put microphone level on 80%. Follow the Sound Wizzard
when u install Mumble and sound quality should be excellent!
If you need a hangout instead of RG TS until you have setup DEA,
you are welcome to use our mumble server, just let me know and I
will make a DEA room in there for u.
Good Luck with setting up the new clan and be sure that at least
I will come and play on a new server with you :D Use my tips as
little or as much as you feel for :o
Best Regards,
[FSN]Opius11
