The Crusader Volume 1: Prologue

Prologue
The shadow of darkness consumes all light, hope and love. It
spreads like a plague, taking all under its wing, death always
lingering near it. It corrupts the minds of once good people,
desperate to live, serving the darkness originally to survive,
and eventually slipping into its inevitable grasp, a grasp
filled with corruption and evil.
The Crusader brought the darkness, and let his shadowed mind of
evil corrupt the land, turning it to his will. The people of
Voran fought for their peace and happiness, but The Crusader
seized it in an instant. He came from far lands, and had studied
Voran more intensely than any of those who lived there. He knew
of its secrets. Dark secrets that he could make succumb to his
power.
He arrived alone, on a small, damaged ship, bearing nothing but
his sword and armor, and began his journey.
He traveled through villages and towns, rallying the people of
Voran to his will, instead of that of their rightful King. Word
of him spread through the land, and the people began to call him
The Crusader.
He continued his quest, and those who defied him were crushed by
his unstoppable wrath. He journeyed into a cave in the darkest
corner of Voran, a cave none of the few who dared venture into
had returned from doing so. The caves were filled with ancient
creatures, and only the strongest of arm and mind would survive.
The Crusader made it through the caves, and found a pillar,
covered in grime and moss, untouched for countless years. He had
read of it in his studies. It was the reward for making it
through the caves, a task almost none could accomplish.
The Crusader unleashed the terrifying power of the pillar, and
from deep within the heart of Voran, an ancient beast stirred.
Loyal only to the one who held the pillar’s power, it rose from
it’s lair in a rage of darkness. It was colossal, invincible,
nothing stood in its way.
The Crusader wanted chaos, and the beast gave it to him, turning
the centre of Voran into a smoking wasteland. It crushed
villages and burned towns, taking countless lives yet sparing
almost as many. When the creature had finally fulfilled its
purpose, it returned to its deep lair, awaiting the next
adventurer who would harness the pillar’s power.
A fleet of ships arrived from the Crusader’s land, an army loyal
to him, and he ruled over them and the surviving people of
Voran, fear his most potent weapon.
For years, the people lived in fear of The Crusader, under his
terrifying rule. Hope was diminished. But even in the darkness,
there was a single light that shone brightly. One would serve as
hope for the people, one would unite them. And it is with him,
that our story lies. And his story began on a winter’s day, when
he was nothing but a child.
