Suna No Onna | Woman of the Dunes (1964). Splendid, resonant
allegorical drama. A scientist studying insects in the Japanese
sand dunes finds himself trapped with a woman in a hut at the
bottom of a pit. Superbly directed and photographed (by Hiroshi
Segawa). Scripted by Kobo Abe from his acclaimed novel. In
Japanese with English subtitles. JP Eiji Okada, Kyoko Kishida,
Koji Mitsui, Hiroko Ito, Sen Yano; Director: Hiroshi
Teshigahara; W: Kobe Abe; C: Hiroshi Segawa; M: Toru Takemitsu.
       Cannes ’64: Grand Jury Prize.
I watched the first 10 minutes and will continue watching later.
I found this movie based on this comment left by someone in the
comments section of All Is Lost:
"Great movie. A combination of the novel Old man and the Sea
and Woman In the Sand dunes (1964,Japanese, the solar still part
almost felt like a replica), both depict man's will and survival
tenancy against the unforgiving natures. And eventual triumph!!
One of RR's very mature (no punk ;))acting, almost felt like a
legacy lyrics to himself. Thanks for posting."

Bizarre and interesting. We humans are curious creatures.

Thanks for posting it. I haven't seen it but I will definitely
give it a look see. I liked the Old Man and the Sea. But I never
       heard of this film.

You have to be in the mood to read subtitles when you watch it.
       If you watch it.

That has happened to me. It takes training. I guess the same
training of the eyes used by people who wear bifocals in contact
lens form - one eye for near and the other for far. ::)

Yeah I'm too old to be trained for something new which I'll get
the hang off a few days before kicking the bucket...

I wish I was young enough to be an old dog. I'm an old bear,
nothing is more important to me anymore other than food and
       sleep...

I sort of know what you mean. I make sure that I accept
invitations from friends or initiate an invitation to get a bite
to eat. If I didn't, all I would do is work and come home. I
try to make the best of whatever time I have left. Who knows?
I might one day go see the Aurora Borealis that I long to see.
