       Chapter 4 Epic Boss (dragon spirit thing) balance needed

       Your ideas on balance are needed for this boss!
       It should be possible to complete every boss with 0 deaths if
       you execute the correct counter-strategy to their Spells and
       attacks. Unfortunately there are a couple problems with this
       boss.
       The boss description is like this:
       [quote]Boss changes between two stages: passive and agressive.
       PASSIVE
       - Teleports every 5-15 second to a random location.
       - Changes his color every 10 to 20 seconds. Then does Passive
       Counter Spells depending what color it currently is:
       => 1) Red: Flame Strike
       => 2) Blue: Frost Nova
       => 3) Yellow: Lightning Bolt
       => 4) Green: Entagling Roots:
       => 5 Orange: Slow:
       => 6) Light Blue: Heals himself:
       => 7) Brown: Insntat death
       - Changes to agressive when 8 to16 spells are cast.
       AGRESSIVE
       - Teleports every 5-15 second to a random location.
       - Attack damage is increased by 150/200/250/300 depending of the
       current difficulty.
       - Have only one color that is grey, but does events:
       => 1) AoE around.
       => 2) Four wisps.
       - Changes to passive when 2 to 4 events are done.[/quote]
       So as you can see the main thing is he changes colour, and IF
       you attack him while he is a certain colour, he will
       counter-attack with the spells mentioned above (e.g. so if he is
       brown then don't attack him, or you will die instantly)
       Problems currently are:
       1. AoE around spell: there are 4 lines of explosions that come
       out of the boss in 4 directions at 90 degrees to each other. The
       problems are two, firstly they come so fast that if you do not
       have Aerial Shoes at this point it is impossible to dodge them.
       Secondly, the damage is dealt way before the animation comes up,
       so the time you get to dodge it, because you are
       watching/waiting for the animation, is almost nothing.

       2. Instant death when he isn't brown: The player should know
       that when the boss is brown, do not attack him or you die
       instantly. At times when the boss is in his Aggressive stance
       and is grey in colour, if you attack him you end up dead, and
       his colour is instantly brown (without the colour change
       animation taking place)
       This is a completely random death not the fault of the player
       (because he looks grey not brown). Here is a video clip

       3. We need some way of letting the player know to look at the
       colour of the boss. As in it is very unlikely the player will
       know not to touch the boss when he is brown. I certainly had no
       idea the colours meant anything until Aero told me. So we need
       some kind of hint to inform the players what kind of strategy
       they will need for this boss.
       So, ideas on what to do with this boss are all welcome.
       Something like:
       1. delay damage on the AoE spiral attack so it takes place after
       or at the same time as the animation, not before
       2. make the AoE spiral attack hit slower
       3. remove the brown colour phase? Make a clear animation occur
       when boss switches from passive to aggressive stance so you
       don't hit him when he's grey and end up dead?
       Apart from balance ideas, ANY NEW IDEAS FOR THIS BOSS OR A NEW
       THEME OR A COMPLETE REMAKE ARE WELCOME. Let's be creative here!

       Yes, well I agree that the boss needs improvements.
       I've not yet found good ideas for the boss.
