Goodbye for now
By: Killa Date: August 19, 2012, 12:37 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Ah, this is probably the right sub-forum. Anyhow, I'm gonna be
going into my major (science, specifically in astronomy/physics)
when I go to college which is in a couple days. This means that
I have to concentrate more than I had to in my other years
because this year is the most important to me since I'll be
doing the real hands-on stuff. Oh and to warn you, this post is
EXTREMELY LONG, unintentionally of course. There's a short
version of all this at the bottom for those lazy readers (like
me!). I decided to color code this post because it seems like
walls upon walls of text, at least now they'll look like
colorful walls! Also because I like colors. Sorry if you don't
like colors, have a cookie instead :).
Basically, I'm saying I won't have any time for TCO :(. A real
shame I must say since I really liked this project. I thought I
could maybe do the texts in my free time (but usually that's not
gonna be a lot with what I'll be doing) and even then I wouldn't
be able to do it correctly. That's because I correct, fix, and
make texts better and when I do it, it's a very long process.
It's a long process because I try to make it the best I can
possibly make it. Simply fixing errors is easy, it'd take no
time at all, but that's not what I do purely. I broke down my
process in spoilers because it's amazingly long and probably
boring to most so you can feel free to skip to the bottom. All
I'm doing there is just saying why I won't have time anymore
because of how I correct.
Grammar/Spelling and Plot Holes
I first do a complete correction of the text in which I
purge any and all spelling/grammar mistakes (which usually
consists of 1-2 mistakes every line of text for a total of 100s
of lines to even 1000s on days when I get a whole bunch of
texts). After that's done I look over to see if there's
inconsistency errors, something that just doesn't quite match up
with the story. Essentially, plot holes. They're not always
there, they're almost rare actually, but when I do find them, I
make sure I discuss with Aero how to fix it or why it shouldn't
be there.
Inconsistencies
Inconsistencies also means saying something in the
wrong way. For example, a saying said wrong "top of the iceberg"
which should instead be "tip of the iceberg". Something simple
like that or something that just doesn't make sense whatsoever.
These are extremely common actually, which makes text correcting
longer because I'm lost by what Aero means half the time! A lot
of the meanings probably gets lost from how Aero makes the
texts, but I don't mind them, that's what he had me for. The
other things inconsistency means is something that is in real
life but not in Oelivert. For example, Oelivert, the item, used
to be called "Mother Earth". Or it could refer to something else
that just doesn't make sense in the world of Oelivert. It's
things like these that I try to find if they exist, they're also
luckily rare.
Conveyance and Repetition
Then, I see how he is trying to convey each sentence.
What he wants to do, which usually involves me communicating
back and forth to see how we can create better sentences and
overall, better dialogues. It's a slow but rewarding process
when it's done. The other thing is repeated words. Aero has a
tendency to keep using words over and over again. For example,
his favorite one is "incredibly". He loves that word and
unconsciously uses it. The other word (misspelled I might add)
is "fightning". It's just like proofreading an essay. You have
to make sure you don't repeat words because it just becomes a
very bland sentence.
Text Limits (No going over 1000 letters!!!!)
Finally (I forgot a few things I do to correct texts
but let's not go on forever), is text limits. I can't ever go
over 1000 letters on multiple texts. This included the book
system and all the spells. With dialogues, it's not a problem.
If it's something else though, it's subjected to a certain
limit. This causes so many problems because Aero leaves a text
usually at 980 letters+ or even over the limit. So sometimes I
have to both shorten AND correct the sentences. Other times I
have to re-correct a sentence in another way because it ends up
being too long. Some people are much better at this than me
because I think not many people have as many problems when
trying to shorten something. I always seem to though but I
manage. I think it's another fun thing to text correcting, but
annoying nonetheless.
Oooookay, well if you did happen to read that huge damn process
I wrote above, then you deserve a medal. No, go on...take it.
It's yours.
This post seems to have become much more a post on how I correct
texts rather than me leaving haha. Well, I only described it
because I just wanted to explain why I really didn't have time
to do this in my free time anymore, even though I'd still love
to. The thing is, even if I tried to correct in a shorter way, I
can't, I just do it naturally. That's not to say I'm slow at
doing it, I do that pretty fast. I just can't do it while having
other stuff to do, though.
This also includes me not being able to do a video/walkthrough I
wanted to do. I never got a chance to get that started again
because I actually lost my save files but I think I got them
back because Aero saved them, not exactly sure. I was hoping to
do the videos one last time before I left as a goodbye present,
but I honestly don't know if I have time left to do it. I'd hope
to, but there's no promises with that.
Finally...(yes it's almost over), this is the part where it's
gonna look like a real good bye post. Not me talking about how I
correct texts (which I'm sure was fascinating to all!). I really
had a great time with this project. Three years have past since
I've been helping Aero, and that was back on the old forums.
Back when I was playing beta. I just had a need to help him for
some reason.
The texts in the game were just awful. Luckily, I made them
better. Unfortunately, I couldn't make everything better. Since
Aero had planned to remake a lot of things across some chapters,
especially 2 and 3. Some corrections never got made that I would
have loved to. The very least though I got to redo chapter 1 and
chapters 4-8 are mostly clear. Only 2 and 3 is still a
nightmare, but again, since they're gonna be redone at one
point, I can't help it.
Well, of course that was just my main job. I won't be able to
help him with balancing/spells/ideas/items or anything really
anymore. It really is a shame but I think I'll be able to help
him on holidays at least. Yay for holidays!
Even though I bashed on Aero's writing/spelling/grammar skills,
I think he really writes in a unique and cool way. It's part of
the reason I chose to help him. That's also why I wanted to help
him improve it.
With that said, I never got to be a part of the community as
much as I wanted to. Only rarely participated in a few
competitions. Rarely posted....rarely did much on the forums.
I'm just a shadow really, but I did enjoy knowing there were
people just like me who are interested in helping the campaign,
if not even more so than I am. I devoted a lot of time to the
campaign but we all did, and that's why it was such a great
project. Oh, and don't worry, Aero has a replacement for me, I'm
sure he's just as good if not better than I am. There's no need
to worry about the texts crapping out now. Who knows, they may
even look better haha!
So, here we go. One last time.....good bye guys. Thanks all,
especially you, Aero.
Better add this in-case the lazy people don't feel like reading
(I'm one of those people).
Short Version: Due to me going to college with a hard major, I
can't continue helping Aero with text corrections and other
things I do to improve the campaign. The process in that I
correct the texts in long because I want it to be perfect
because I think it deserves to be. Overall, I want to thank
everyone because we all worked on this campaign together, and I
know you guys will continue to work on it and make it better,
even when I'm not here. I hope to come back at times during the
holidays to continue helping when I can, but I know the campaign
is in good hands regardless. Thanks to all.

Ah, wonderful.. a job description. Just what I was looking for
:)
Jokes aside good luck mate! We've never met but I'm sure your
extreme playthrough was a huge motivation for many of the
excellent contributors we currently have. And without your text
corrections I'm sure many people would have been put off from
enduring through to the inner brilliance of TCO.
Who knows, I'm tempted to do a video playlist myself, but a 100%
run on extreme without give-up with the campaign in it's current
state of difficulty is, I feel, pretty damn hard.
Would love to meet you soon!

Well this is really awkward since a few months ago it was you
who posted a farewell message in my (failed) goodbye thread yet
today the roles are reversed and it seems like this time you are
leaving for real.
Sad to see you going though but I hope that you will return and
we can talk to each other more one day. Farewell, my friend, and
may luck smile upon your chosen path.

Sorry, Killa, but i just couldn't read all the post, i read smth
about half of it them jumped to the end.
I hope i can see you again in the future, i'm a optimistic
person(yet the chances are almost zero ::)).
Oh, and PLEASE don't make the same mistake as Doom, i don't like
to say goodbye to people, yet if i say, you HAVE to leave, it's
common sense, what kind of person say goodbye to each other then
continue walking side to side :P?
Goodbye, Killa. May our chains of destiny get stuck in each
other again ;D.

Thanks so much for all the help Killa.
So we will run through the thunder now... And in some distant
future, we shall meet again.
This is not a sad ending, this something else. Otherwise I would
give the song that is the most dearest to me(which will be heard
at the end of the game). Instead, I give you something else.
This gives me the opposite feeling of sadness.

This text is from the game with some little fixes just for us.
It is about what happened to fellow adventurer of Balgaron: the
very noblest Killa and some other brave warriors.
Side by side we experienced the life of the road and faced the
most terrible of foes. Many of us have fallen in combat. With
heavy heart, I shall report at home that their journey has
indeed ended. Their spirit, however, lives on in our memories on
my honor, their tale will be told in history books and from
generation to generation.
And as for mankind, well, all is not lost, incredibly. At the
very moment of our evil foe's triumph there appeared yet another
dragon of unimaginable power to stand against the creature of
seemingly infinite darkness. Why? I, myself, do not quite
comprehend...

Oh, how awesome. Didn't know everyone liked me this much, well
thanks, you've made my day a little better! Let me respond to
you each individually and intimately...well now that sounds
weird.
Well let's go in order of who replied first. To Hamza...
Ah, wonderful.. a job description. Just what I was
looking for
Yes, I figured everyone would get a kick out of that. Really,
it's so exciting!
We've never met
Yeah, we haven't. Very unfortunate but that's okay, most people
haven't met me either haha! But seriously, doing an extreme run
without any giveups isn't as hard as you think. You can get all
the items you need even with how the current difficulty system
is set up.
Even though I won't be able to prove that quite yet again, I'll
be doing something similar with a hardcore run. Though I will be
using a giveup because I wanted to show how ridiculously amazing
I can make the chosen ones (it's insane). Hope to actually do
that in my off time but who knows. Thanks for the goodbye.
Now moving on to Black,
Dude you have been the ultimate exterminator(bug
reporter)
Oh please, go on. No, really thanks. It's been a habit of mine.
Though, TCO I think was pretty bug infested when I first got to
it, it's toned down a lot. I can't tell you how many lines of
bugs I had to write down though...it's so much cleaner now
though! Really though, everyone helped it to be much cleaner, I
think it's great we squashed so many bugs...and that Aero
actually takes the time to fix them all!
hope you will come back one day.
You shouldn't worry about that. This is "Goodbye for now". Note
the "now, not goodbye forever. I'll be back, maybe sooner than
you think? I will definitely be back in the Summer or late
spring (May?). I'll probably even swing around on the holidays
most notably in the Winter. Not sure if I'll be on the forums
though, just probably helping Aero if I can with some things or
doing more videos if I'm still doing that sort of thing at the
time. Thanks for the response!
Now for Doom, (that sounds menacing...time for DOOOOOOM!)
Sad to see you going though but I hope that you will
return and we can talk to each other more one day. Farewell, my
friend, and may luck smile upon your chosen path.
Yeah, I'll be back, and we'll definitely talk some more. I don't
think you need to worry about that. I considered myself a shadow
of this project, now you can just think of me as a ghost. I'll
be around every now and then, even if you can't see me. Though
I'll definitely make sure to tell you when I'm back for a decent
amount of time. Like I said before, that'd be around holidays or
long breaks. I usually get back on weekends though but again,
those are usually taken up with other things...anyhow, thanks
for the reply and the goodbye!
It's time to move onto Shino,
Sorry, Killa, but i just couldn't read all the post, i
read smth about half of it them jumped to the end.
Nah, we'll definitely see each other again.
what kind of person say goodbye to each other then

I can tell you this much...it gets awkward...real fast.
Goodbye, Killa. May our chains of destiny get stuck in
each other again .
Heh, they probably will. Thanks for your reply and goodbye
message!
Now onto the creator of this fine place,
Aeroble.....Aerobline....Aerobleyctoscadcsccdodc....Aero, yeah
let's go with that.
Thanks so much for all the help Killa.
Ah, for me, helping wasn't a problem at all. I truly enjoyed it.
Epic post btw...
I, myself, do not quite comprehend...
I think I do, but I rather not spoil it for everyone else. I'll
let them figure it out by themselves. It's more fun that way.
Thanks for everything Aero, the one who started the
project....and the one who I call....a friend. Goodbye....for
now. Hope to see you soon as well as everyone else. Thanks for
your epic and awesome goodbye post.
With that I'd like to say something myself. Guys...I'll be back.
This isn't the end. This isn't the beginning either. I'm not
sure what it is, but whatever it is, I'm bound to end up here
again somehow. Also, I plan to do videos in my off time or
whenever I'm free. This means I could even post videos tomorrow
(doubtful) or at any time while I'm away (also doubtful!). I'm
saying though, even if I'm saying goodbye, you may be able to
feel me still being there with the videos I post since I've
recorded some and can put some up while I'm away and even record
some more when I'm back at home, yay!
Anyhow, thanks all for the responses. You guys give me the power
to keep working on the campa-Oh wait....I'm not the person who
is supposed to say that....let's try that again.
Thanks for all the responses, you guys make me feel warm and
fuzzy inside....good enough.

Ah well I think it was a bad choice of words on my part ;D.
Anyhow, I know what I contributed and I don't try to downplay it
but meh, I'm not good with this stuff. I only used words like
that because I was more referring to my forum presence. I think
it should have been bigger because I really am not online here
too much.
Not to say that was in regards to what I actually gave back to
the project. It's not like I am sad or mad at not being online
more, it's just something that didn't happen enough. That's
really all I meant by it. Seems I've begun to ramble again...
Anyway thanks for the kind words.
