Latest Campaign game

I think I like where we are at with this one. I (finally) have
a game where I am not KIA after one or two missions. Just
finished a long campaign and here are the results:
Campaign with all realism rules to date including Kammhuber
effect.
26 May 42 to 30 September 42.
37 potential missions.
19 over target and bombs dropped.
4 scrubbed for wx
5 aborts for heat out, engine fires on takeoff, etc
4 recalled for wx
3 recalled for spoof
1 collision outbound, bomb aimer kia, aborted.
Bomber destroyed over target (Kassel) by Ju-88 C-6, bomb bay hit
on 30 Sept 42.
Original pilot KIA on mission 13.
Edit: I forgot to mention, I had no electronics on board the
entire tour.

Erm.. maybe dense but what does the Kammhuber effect do? No
uneventful things included right?
At which mission no. did you get the chop?
Did you only lose 1 crew (the pilot) up to the end?
Some observations/The spoof rules I would like to change:
1. Spoofs were initially flown by Mosquitos (unsuccesful, not
having H2S it did not fool the LW monitoring its signals, as
that was the most reliable source of fixing the stream)
2. Later spoofs were purposedly planned from outset and flown by
"obsolete" Wimpys, Hal II/V and Stirlings, and as those being
H2S equipped they mostly were more succesful.
3. A recall of a major mission is was so seldom, it hardly worth
modelling. (at least I never read about it)
A sensible recall should have been the Nuremberg march 44
raid. Did not happen, as the rigid machinery to get the raid
going just missed the
flexibility to do so.
4. Modelling a scrub only has sense if you fill out a logbook of
sorts, else why spend the time?

I had some crew with LW and 3 Sw with only one able to fly
again--my original pilot--he was KIA 9 missions later. My
bomber bought it on the 33rd mission they were wheels up. That
includes 2 where they lost an engine on TO and had to abort.
I play the Kammhuber effect like this: I roll for it every
turn--5 or 6 on a d6 means one of two things. If, over
'friendly' territory (England, water), I still roll for
collisions in the zone and navigation checks. If, over axis
water/land, I roll on the Kammhuber chart and then possibly for
searchlight/flak and night fighters--plus collision checks and
nav.
If I roll 1-4, I have a free ride in the zone and only do fuel
checks at the end of the turn. Nothing but altitude, weather,
recall and mech problem chances and contrail chance---and fuel.
I experimented on the last couple of missions (before my demise)
on subtracting one from the d6 if over a NF zone.
One thing I am reading about H2S is how unreliable they were and
that it took a long while to get into service on more than a few
bombers. I suspect the mods in the game are too strong. Of
course, I had no electronics for this whole tour so it didn't
matter. Interesting how many ac turned back with issues
including H2S failing.

"I experimented on the last couple of missions (before my
demise) on subtracting one from the d6 if over a NF zone. "
Makes sense on MAP I&II.
The Himmelbett Zone (HZ) system was (before WINDOW) effective
BUT very rigid. So intercepts outside of the NF zones very
unlikely.
If youre experimenting, I would suggest to roll normally for NF
on the orange circles HZ.
Roll and substract 1 for NF in the purple Zones/hexes ("BÄR"
ect), and then again for FlaK with modifier on FlaK column.
Roll and substract 2 for NF in the grey boxed zones (MAP II).
Free rides outside this.
FlaK at Coast, purple areas and for target with FlaK modifiers,
thereby shifting it more to moderate to heavy flak.
Most but not all Flak concentrations were known, so I am
thinking about how to inadvertendly run into flak, in order to
make somewhat unpredictable.
A zone shift left or right of the whole stream, due to winds via
random events comes to mind. To represent friction between
planning and RL.
On MAP III the NF game changes to more fluid intercepts.
The radio (assembly) stations on the MAP ("otto" "ida" "5" ect)
should "feed" NF (AI equipped tame boars only) into the stream.
Something (yeah, still vague) like passing a beacon within a 1
hex range triggering a nasty minus 2 or 3 NF intercept attempt.
This would be modified by:
1. strategic EW situation: weighted per campaign, depending on
(counter)EW effectiveness, (WINDOW, SPOOF, ABC ect) wrapped up
in 1 modifier.
2. tactical EW situation: NF with SN-2? SM? MONICA? BOOZER?
TINSEL? FISHPOND? ect
"One thing I am reading about H2S is how unreliable they were
and that it took a long while to get into service on more than a
few bombers."
Basically, new equipment went to the PFF first.(H2S, OBOE,
GEE-H)
H2S to 7sqd Stirlings, 35 sqd halis and then lancs. Then MF
(main force).
H2S MKII came out in end 1943 with higher resolution. Still
struggling to get that kinda right in a matrix...
Again, the spoof thing in game as a mechanism is total rubbish,
but I get the designers wanted to spice things up again.
