Water and Night fighters

Been reading as you do, and really i would only have a Night
Fighter encounter in a water next to axis land, nowhere else at
sea, this obviously would make more moves risk free, but gives a
bigger increase in a uneventful mission.

Yes agree.
My idea is to use the map to track your position, and only if
you are in Himmelbett range run a risk of NF (and flak).
To change the rules like you said, to land adjacent zones only,
could be a quick fix.
In fact, at places a lot of bombers went down in the drink by
guided intercepts, an example the Frisian islands north part
holland, with Himmelbett code animal names:

Its really grated on me the water and NF, in one game i got shot
down just off the coast of England, and their were still another
5 water zones to go the target of Kiel, i just cannot see the
Germans waiting just off the coast of england for targets

The new Kammhuber chart makes is much more difficult to get
spotted by a random NF, so I haven't changed this--yet. I look
at this as a chance encounter if it comes up. I may change to
"only if adjacent to land". I really like the idea of these
maps, though. Would make it awesome to see the NF zones
visually.

Especially when you drop window while over water....chances are
quite drastically reduced.
Still you have to figure there would be some NFs chasing bombers
inbound to home more so than outbound when they would be getting
their Defense plan in order

Will try with the map.
Not all that hard to do I think.
The problem is fluidity of the defenses.
So map will be restricted in its validity by time/phase, but I
think will be a much better indicator then what we have now.

Exeptions aside (really rare) by Führers decree the NF were
forbidden to perform intruder missions.
So historically NF attacks virtually cease at the north sea
crossing/leaving last Himmelbett radius over water.
Low NF fuel by then was also a factor.

It was very rare for a NF to follow outside of its sea zone,
they too were worried about ending up in the drink. The only
reason i can see that it was not addressed in the game, was to
make it Gamey, things like this do need addressing. Certainly id
also say a lot of Gazetter targets are just in their to fill
spaces and make it worth printing the booklet.
