       Saipan/3July, 1944

80 years ago today, my father spilled his blood while defending
democracy on the island of Saipan. The sniper's bullet that
struck him in the abdomen, first went through the neck of the
lieutenant in front of him, taking his life. Walter F. Joyce

My dad was in L/3/2 on Saipan and was wounded at Garapan. I
have a list of the guys in his platoon and will see if your
       father was in his platoon.

I did locate my dad's platoon roster (2nd platoon) for L/3/2 and
do not see your dad's name on it, so they were in different
platoons, at least they were at the time this roster was put
together. Could have sworn I'd seen your dad's name somewhere.

My Uncle Charles Sikkema, Fox Co. 2/8 was wounded the 6th day on
Saipan when the "surrendering' Japanese in a cave, decided to
blow themselves and as many Marines as possible, up.
