       Culp was KIA along with Capt Walker, 1st Lt Reichel and 2nd Lts
       Dahlgren and Beck . Mesmer was the only surviving officer of
       Easy 2/2 out of the 6. Only Walker and Culp had seen action
       before Tarawa. Both on Guadalcanal. Mesmer ended up fighting on
       Betio with F/2/2 going across the island.

       Thanks for posting.  Culp was an interesting guy and dedicated
       Christian.  He was with the Raiders then worked with Chaplain
       Willard for a while as his assistant.  Reportedly Capt Williams
       thought he might perform badly in combat.  Of interest is that
       we went to the same college.  There was a building named for
       Culp on campus but had a name change in the late 1950s to honor
       another grad killed in S. America working with Auca indians.

       Got lucky on Culp picture as GoldenArrow found it kind of hidden
       in Culp's OMPF. Very few pics of Culp out there. Still trudging
       along trying to put E/2/2's story together. Mesmer had weapon's
       platoon. Dahlgren the 2nd. Don't know who had 1st or 3rd between
       Culp and Beck. Did not ask enough questions or know enough in
       the 90s when many of the Marine's were still around.... I got
       asked to attend 2ndMarDiv reunion back then as well but work
       sidetracked it. Regret that one big time!
