What is the best soil/substrate for an aquatic plant tank?

In you opinion, what is the best soil/substrate for an aquatic
plant tank? I will be getting my first bag of soil for the first
time. ;D It will be thew S.T. International Aqua Soil so I
really can't make a comparison. But for those of you more
       experienced...what is your opinion?
Hopefully I will be able to speak on this topic in the future.
       ;)
       Thanks

As a follower of Dustin, and his 'dirted tanks'
       (
  HTML https://www.youtube.com/user/Dustinsfishtanks),
       I'm using
Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Mix.
So far my experience has been great. Course at this time I'm
starting my carpeting plants immersed. The growth I've seen
over the past 2+ weeks has been very surprising. I've already
trimmed and replanted my staurogyne repens.
Personally, if your using a soil that has been engineered with
nutrients 'built in' or natural soil, it's all about those
nutrients. One could use simple play ground sand and still have
a nice planted tank as long as those nutrients are added to the
sand via the water column or root tabs right next to the plant
       itself.
I'd be interested to see/hear of your success with the Aqua Soil
       you've got coming in.
       All the best,
       Paul

In my opinion dirt is very effective if you are starting a
planted tank rather than buying expensive products. I am using
dirt in my planted tank and my plants love it, plant growth is
rapid since using dirt in the tank so you should try it once.

I would also say miracle grow organic. I think the ones made
specifically for aquariums aren't much different but they charge
       more for it ...
I usually cap with sand. Some people swear by pea gravel, but I
think that's a decision you have to make based on the fish
you're going to keep. I love cory cats, for example, and they
don't do well on gravel ... so I stick with sand. I've also
noted that a lot of your lower tech plants do just fine in
straight up sand if you use root tabs and dose a little liquid
       fert like flourish.
