Hello fellow Tank Talkers. Patrick Lindsey, here. If you keep
up with John's content, you may recognize the name.
My wife and I have been doing business with KGT since it was
operated from John's garage.
I am currently running a very crowded 90-gallon with peacocks,
haps, mbunas, odd-ball frontosas, a few misc. tanganykans, and a
collection of rare plecos.
John built me a custom stand to hold a gorgeous 240 with custom
decor from Universal Rocks, but the tank met with an untimely
demise during transport. The stand is just right for a 180,
though, and I have an acrylic 180 being manufactured right now.
Hopefully my Africans will get their new home in about two
weeks.
It's very nice to meet everyone!

The Famous Patrick Lindsey!!! Nice to meet you. Yes, I'm a sappy
and sensitive guy (and yes, I'm straight...lol) I don't know you
and I don't know John personally. But both of you seem like good
people. And I know John has thanked you many times. But I also
want to thank you for helping John...thanks!!! :D

I wasn't sure if you would share the tank disaster story! Do you
know how many views that would've got me if we caught that on
video? It would've gone viral instantly and KGTropicals would be
a world wide name lol. We would've had to include the "explicit
language" tag to that video for sure!
And for the record, I was there but IT WAS NOT ME THAT DROPPED
THE TANK ::) ::) ::)

I remember Mr. Lindsey from the first night KGTropicals 'chat
with john' evening. Nice to see you here as well.
Wow, I do hope no one got hurt in the disaster.
Due tell, what's the 'real' story?

The "real story" is that I purchased the tank from Glass Cages
in July. John and I picked it up and took it to his shop, where
he was going to build the stand. Once the stand was finished, a
buddy and I drove up to KG, loaded the stand and tank in John's
truck, and we all made our way to Richmond - where I had a
co-worker on standby waiting to help unload.
The stand was unloaded without serious incident, although a
small piece of trim was damaged in the process.
The tank made it out of the truck, into the garage, and up one
of four steps from the garage into the kitchen, when my
co-worker lost control of his corner and dropped the tank.
The 3/4" glass bottom exploded, as well as a few of the internal
glass braces. John insisted that it was repairable, but I
called a buddy in the glass business, and he said it would cost
about 75% of the original purchase price to fix it. So, I opted
to replace it with a 180-gallon acrylic.
After a day or two, when I could actually bring myself around to
doing the clean-up, my wife and I determined that there was no
good way of disposing of a partially broken 400+ lb. tank, which
was sitting in the middle of our garage. So we wrapped it in
the thickest blanket we have and smashed it into pieces small
enough to put in the garbage can. After a couple of hours, we
were able to get the whole thing out of the garage, into the
garbage, and out to the street for pick-up.
The picture above was taken about halfway through the smashing
process.

Man, that is so terrible. I bet the swear words are still
echoing in the garage.
If it were me, I don't know if I could look you in the eyes
after that. How heart breaking.
Thanks for sharing the "real story", and I hope we'll see some
pictures here in the forums of your new tank an getting thing
setup.
All the best sir,
Paul
