       Cross breeding Lake Malawi Cichlids

I am trying to breed Cichlids as a test run for a biology
project that relates these fish to Darwin's finches. I picked up
a Livingstonii and a Yellow Lab, I'm not sure if they will
breed. I'm not trying to produce a new specie of any type I'm
just doing a test run and I'm curious if they will breed

I wouldn't think so as they are completely different species.
You would have a higher chance at cross breading if you stuck to
Mbuna that look similar or Peacocks. I don't have any
experience in this but based on what I have read I doubt they
would even try to cross breed

I have a yellow lab that cross bred with a blue zebra and the
suviving fish looks like an exasperatus (was yellow when small
and now bluish grey) , and I have a lone female Kenyi that mated
while we were out in the pool and Ive seen a couple dark blue
babies in the rocks. The current theory is that all Malawi
cichlids started from one species and they evolved over
millenium into mbuna, haps and peacocks.

Thank you for the help! I will try and get a few more yellow
labs and try to get a different specie of mbuna if the hap
cannot/won't mate with her. Are there suggestions for what two
species are most likely to mate?
