do i need more filteration

In my 55 gal i have a Cascade 700 canister and a Fluval U3.
There are 12 fish, 11 Mbuna and 1 pleco. I have been doing water
changes once a week. Every time i test the water ammonia is 0
nitrite is 0 and nitrate is low, I can't remember what the last
reading was but is was low. My question is is I had a sponge
filter running before I got the Fluval, and I had lest fish
then. Should I put the sponge filter back in or an I ok?

I feel you have adequate filtration for your system.

Personally I would put it back in. You can never have too much
filtration. Plus if you ever need to setup a hospital tank you
can take it out and use it there. I have some kind of extra
filtration in every one of my 10 tanks.

+1. I think you have enough filtration for a 55 already.
I'm not a big fan of sponge filters on a display tank but they
are great for breeding and fry tanks.
