Wasting Disease
By: Austlids Date: February 20, 2015, 12:32 am

Has anyone else experienced wasting disease. At first I thought
my problem was parasites with my Cichlids (treated many times),
now I am starting to think it's much more. The more I read on
the net the more concerned I am. Now that my fish have grown
they seem to be dieing at a very fast rate. Within a day or so
of showing signs of huge weight loss and also curving spines
they are dead. All my fish were fine until I bought some
Electric Yellows from a LFS which died within days of bringing
them home, so I suspect they were carriers of something. Love to
hear other peoples thoughts on what I should do. Its killing me
to watch my beautiful fish suffer one after another. P.S water
parameters are good and been stable for over a year now,
frequent water changes also.

Sorry to hear about your loss Austlids.
Wasting disease as I know it is typically a description of fish
tuberculosis.
Usually when this sets in there's not much you can do to help
the fish, aside from removing them to a quarantine tank.
I've read that adding garlic to their diet can help, but I have
no experience with doing so.
Keep us informed how your managing.

This is scary and making me seriously consider setting up one of
30 gallon tanks as a hold tank for when I buy new fish or have
some sickly ones.
