       Single species 55 gallon?
By: My Affair Date: September 20, 2014, 1:29 pm

Looking for suggestions on a single species 55 gallon african
tank. Thinking Lethronop Intermedius or Lake Victorian
"Christmas Fulu" Is a 55 sufficient to house 2 males? The tank
is in the entryway of our home so color is a must. Any other
       suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I am new to cichlid keeping my self. But from what I have
learned so far from John is to take the size of your tank divide
that number by two and that number is the max amount to keep in
your tank male or female. John says to keep the tank very busy
so that there is little room for the fish to fight over
territory. Also I have learned keep your tank simple because the
more decoration and the more places your fish have to claim as
territory the more fighting you will see. You don't want
fighting lol. But the answer to your question is if you keep two
males in the tank especially only 2 in a 55 gallon you will have
some problems because it will be a territory war lol. Your fish
number in that size should be 10 15 or 20 that way all of you
fish will be happy because they love colonizing and being in
large groups. I hope that I have helped you with your question
;-) John really is the expert here. Just passing on what i have
       learned so far ;-)

Might be a nice set up for a colony of Gold or Ele. Blue rams
       just a thought

Not sure if you're into Mbuna but Pseudotropheus Saulosi is an
option. Both male and female are colourful and will go well in a
       tank that size.

You can't go wrong with a really nice mbuna tank. Male and
females are both colorful and a very good idea (my opinion) for
someone new to the African cichlids.

Saulosi is what I was going to say as well. males and females
look great as the picture shows. If you want to branch out to
two species, a blend of yellows labs and acei would look nice.
Both are good beginner African cichlids.
