What size sump for my aquarium?

So I want to put a sump in my 125gal aquarium but I don't know
how big of a sump I should use. I am also thinking of one for my
75gal as well. Is one large sump for both tanks a good idea. Any
help would be great.

your sump should be able to hold all the water that drains from
the overflows if the power were to go out. that said, im
guessing at least a 30 gallon would be sufficient for a 125.
but it all depends on the height of the overflows

I am purchasing a 125 gallon tank with no overflows it is
drilled and plumbed ready to go. It comes with a 30 gallon sump
tank. You should be fine. I have an overflow box that I might
use.
