cloudy/milky water
By: mrk13p Date: December 9, 2014, 6:11 pm

Hi all,
So i was running 2 canisters on my 150 but needed a filter
for a 60 gallon i just picked up. I had a 40 gallon sitting so i
converted it to a sump and transferred all media form one
canister to the sump and ran that simultaneoulsy with the other
canister. During the change, my water was cloudy. I thought this
was normal and waited a couple days for it to settle. During
this time, I also moved all the media from the remaining
canister into the sump. So all that is running currently on the
tank is the 40 gallon sump with the established media and 100
micron filter socks. All tank parameters were the same during
the change. ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 20. Water is still
cloudy after about a week and a half. I considered algae bloom
and attached my uv steralizer but no help. the steralizer has
been on for 48 hrs already. next guess is maybe phosphates? but
i am also running chemi pure which should deal with the
phosphates. should i give a couple more days for the steralizer?
or just wait for things to settle a little longer. Any help
would be appreciated.

Still think it is still a bio bloom, I had the same problem.
Just like you I put a UV sterilizer in there, there was no
affect for a long time. Eventually you will have crystal clear
water.
