Cyrtocara moorii though was a male???

So I have a 4" Cyrtocara moorii that was sold to me as male from
a reputable source. I have had it for about 6 months now. Not
much of a hump on its head but was pretty sure it was male by
its demeanor. One of the sub bosses of my all male tank lip
locking occasionally with some of the other tanks mates.
Tonight I went to feed them and I noticed that the Cyrtocara
moorii had dug a giant sand pit and was chasing the other fish
away from it. Typical male behavior however when I took a
closer look he appeared to have an extended egg tube like you
see on females... Its very bizarre behavior as its in an all
male tank and the Cyrtocara moorii dug the giant sand pit like
males do but it has what looks like an egg tube? None of the
other males are trying to mate with he/she as it is chasing all
other tank inhabitants far away from its pit. I have never seen
a female behave this way but it looks like it has an egg tube so
I am unsure what is going on. I think it may be a female but
the behavior is very male like....I have never seen anything
like this in my 20 years of cichlid keeping any ideas?

Males extend their reproductive equivalent (urogenital opening)
as a duct of sorts also. I have seen it with my Geophagus when
       they are in the mood.
