       Geophagus

I finally got my new tank set up and while at my LFS i purchased
what they had labeled as a "Pearl Cichlid." I had no idea if it
was African or SA and couldnt pass up the deal (50% off!), plus
it is a great looking cichlid! I believe it is a geophagus
brasiliensis. All the cichlids in my tank are currently
juveniles and are mostly mbunas and haps (although i did add 1
firemouth too, it was 2$!). The geophagus has grown almost an
inch in the past three weeks and is getting a beautiful green
blue coloration, also it does not take grief from any other
fish. I have read that this cichlid accepts a wide variety of
water parameters. Has anyone else owned a geophagus brasiliensis
and what should i expect from this cichlid? Will it be okay in a
       primarily AC tank?

I had some years ago, very nice fish, but I think they are a
little mild mannered to be with african cichlids.

You are right. I think getting him is turning out to be a
mistake. Now that a pecking order is getting established he is
starting to get bullied. If it continues i am going to have to
look for a new home for the poor guy :'(. Makes me sad because
       he is coloring up beautifully.

Just needed to add more cichlids! The Geophagus Brasiliensis is
no longer being singled out and is doing great. What a relief, i
didn't want to have to give him away or see further harm happen.
He is happy and even chasing the new guys around.
