       Return Pump for sump

So I got a very simple question. Can I use a canister filter for
a return pump? It my so weird but if you think about it, it
would make sense just by putting the intake in the sump and
return in the tank. By doing this you can also get extra
filtration. The only reason why I am saying this is because I
have a Fluval 406 that I am not certainly using. Trying to save
so money!! Tell me what you think.

i think the only prob would be the filter needs to be below the
water level. Im not sure about this, but remember reading it
       somewhere on my 406 manual.

All canister filters are "fed" via a siphon from the tank down
to the filter. The impeller motor in the canister is not strong
enough to "pull" water out of the sump. The only way to make
your suggestion work is to mount the sump above the canister.
