best budget lighting for a 20 gallon long
By: hapguy63 Date: October 14, 2014, 12:10 am

So I picked up a 20 gallon long at the $1 per gallon sale with
the idea that I would finally setup a planted tank that I have
always wanted to try. I got everything picked out but the
lightning. I am trying to do this on a budget. What are some
affordable lighting options for a 20 gallon planted tank?

Funny you bring those up. I just built a set of them on my 55
gallon African tank. They work great but are not bright enough
and do not produce enough light for a planted tank. I was
thinking a shop light with 2 t8 bulbs. Anyone ever grow plants
with those?

Depends on the plants, I have two very basic planted tanks and
all they have in both cases are 2 x 15Watt lights, one has T8s,
the other T5s. In my case it is mainly because I am a big of a
cheap skate when it comes to paying for electricity so did not
upgrade them to anything with a higher rating.
