       I have an empty tank 36"x13"x21" could I house a lone male GT in

       yup you can
       I am currently keeping 3 terrors 1 female 2 male with other
       cichlids in 4ft tank  :D
       IMO they don't grow fast like oscars and if they grow I think
       you will be fine ;)
