       Severums
By: Cichlider Date: October 12, 2014, 8:12 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hello everyone!
So ever since I've seen a Severum (specifically the Red-Spotted
Severum) I have been seriously considering adding them to my
fish collection. Have any of you owned one (or two or three...
:) ) of these beauties? What advice would you give before adding
them to a tank? (Size of tank, tank mate compatibility, etc.).
       Thanks! ;D

They are such a beauty although I own yellow one
I am currently keeping him with american and african cichlid
since the one you want will likely get to 10 inches you should
       get 75 gallon tank :D

They are such beautiful fish! :D
Oh really?! He/she gets along with your africans and the other
       way around? :)
And that's great! I was thinking I would keep them in my 65
gallon, at least until they grew, but if I can put them with my
africans then the size wouldn't be an issue! I just thought that
they would have required different water parameters or have been
       picked on or something. :o
       Thanks Probn! ;D

       parameters that africans need :)

By cichlid standards they are relatively peaceful and can do
well in community or cichlid tanks. I have heard of people
keeping them in water up to a pH of 8.0 although I would imagine
they would prefer it a bit softer if possible, being from more
naturally acidic SA waters. As long as you are not keeping them
with Tanganyikans in properly hard water of 8.5+ they should do
       ok.

Wow that would be awesome to see! How long did it take for them
to grow to 8 inches? :)

       Ok thanks!
Right now just doing some research! I have been eyeing them ever
since I first saw them, but want to make sure I will be able to
accomodate them before I bring them home! (Don't want them to
       suffer :'( ).

Ok great! I love the idea of peaceful cichlids :).
Thanks so much Stu! The more I learn about these guys, the more
I would like to own them! ;D

Also, anyone know if the different types (yellow, green,
red-spotted, rotkeil...) of Severums are compatible with each
       other? :)
I'm assuming they are since they sound like they are a more
docile species, but would love to see what you all think! ;D
