Stocking question?

I know that this isn't the best scenario so please don't blow up
the post with how I'm dumb. I recently got a 40g tank
(36"x13"x21") from a friend with about 10 3in peacocks. I don' t
have the money right now to setup another larger tank. My
question is if this will work or not. I would like to keep the
fish because they are really starting to color up.

You should be fine with the fish you have, of coarse perfect
world would be for you to get them in a larger tank but for now
they should be fine ::) ::)

Not too sure about African Cichlids growth rates but I would
definitely start looking if you have not already.

like ive heard people in the past they will be okay its just
more maintenance for you to keep the bio load in check. more
frequent water changes.

What kind of filtration do you have? The more you have the
better the tank will be. It will help you big time, but if you
make sure your maintenance is on point you will be fine.
