       'Juiced' African Cichlids

Hey guys, just wanted to ask your opinions on 'juiced' malawi
       cichlids. Especially peacocks n haps.
How long do it usually take before the color enhancements wear
off? And is there a way to sex such cichlids?

       Hi,
I can't say for certain how long as brands may differ but it
could be weeks to months. In terms of sexing hormone enhanced
fish, depending on the size of the fish. vent sexing may be the
       only method.
       Hope that helps

I recently fell victim to purchasing a couple of juiced fish. I
knew something was wrong when they started to slowly lose color.
One of the fish was a German red peacock and I should have been
smarter and realized that he was way too small to be almost
entirely bright red. He faded to a drab brown and looked that
way for months. He just recently started to regain his color
but now he is more of a darker shade of orange than red.
Now I know what to look for and I won't buy fish that look like
they could potentially have been juiced.

Many times a juiced juvenile will not ever fully color up after
the hormones are worked out of their system. The artificially
induced hormones can cause the glands of the fish that are
responsible for natural hormone production to underdevelop, and
       the effects are irreversible.
