Repashy Gel Fish Food
By: Stu4648 Date: October 1, 2014, 2:12 am

Has anyone tried Repashy gels? It sounds interesting and from
what I have heard fish really like it. It sounds as though it
would be pretty good for plecos as there is a soilent green
variety containing aufwuchs and other little edible organisms
for algae eaters and even a morning wood (great name to ask for
at your LFS) variety for the wood eating (xylivorous if you like
big words) panaques. And as a bonus it apparently stinks your
house out when you make up the gel from the powder, great for
attracting all the stray dogs and cats in the area no doubt.
Anyone have any first hand experience of using either of these
or any of their other varieties?

Yeah I use these. I use Soilent Green on my Mbuna and Spawn and
Grow for my fry. With the Soilent Green I mix in a little bit of
the Red Cartenoid powder just to get a little bit of color
enhancement They are quality food and I have had good growth
with them. I also keep using it because I have never had any
problems with bloat.
All in all it is just great food in my opinion.

I will definitely have to try it out when I have used up a bit
more of my current fish food stocks.

I'm currently using Morning Wood for my bristle-nose adults and
their fry. I use the Meat Pie for all of my predators. It's a
really great product, and so worth the money. The nutrition is
really spot on!
I usually boil water and then add the dry. Some of the mixtures
require a little more dry, or less depending upon what
consistency you want. It can help to set aside a few containers
to just use for setting it up and keeping it covered. That means
you have to treat it like fresh food, and store it in the
fridge. It also has a rather...interesting smell when you mix
it. For the most part most of my fish love this and it's now a
staple part of their diet.
I'm still shocked that my colony of rope-fish took so well to
the Meat Pie variety.

What way do you normally feed it? Do you mainly cut it into
large wafers / chunks or have you tried cutting it so it is more
like small pellets?

The way I feed it is just cutting it into chunks and threading
some fishing line through it. When it comes time to feed I just
hang the food in the tank let the fish feed for like a minute
then take it out. I do this about twice a day.
I have heard people say that they cut it into small pieces and
feed it like I'd it were pellets but I've never tried it.

I guess that is the advantage of gel foods, you can tailor it to
the size of the fish.
