       Mbuna Eat Algae?

Now, I know that some mbuna are herbivores and omnivores? Do
they eat hair algae that grows on rocks or anything? Any
experiences with mbuna keeping hair algae population down in
       your African Cichlid tanks?

I had a lot of hair algae in one of my tanks and inadvertently
got rid of it by going on holidays for a few days and leaving
the lights turned off. I had no timer, so the tank was basically
in darkness for the best part of 80hrs. Since then it has not
been able to grow back as I have a shed load of shrimp in there
now constantly cleaning the plants so it cannot get a foothold.
Shrimp ain't gonna be any use to you with a load of mbuna but
turning your lights off or at least reducing the time they are
       on may help.
As for whether mbuna will eat hair algae I have no idea but even
if they didn't eat it they may rip at it if they were feeling
sufficiently bored / angry I would imagine.
