       When to Strip
By: ShowCichlid Date: September 25, 2014, 10:38 pm

Just want to gather an opinion poll on when people strip eggs?
How much time and any differences between species or reasons for
       or against waiting.
I have been striping my African cichlids within 3-4 days since I
notice them holding. So far all have been eggs and I incubate
       them in a homemade bubbler.
       Thanks for contributing!

I have found that ideally it's better to wait a little over a
week to give the eggs a chance to stabalize. They seem to be
stronger and more likely to develop if they have a little longer
in the fish's mouth. The reason why I don't wait is because I
have so many fish breeding that I don't want to track the exact
timing of the female holding. I do find that a portion of every
hutch don't survive in the tumbler. However, if you wait then
you take a chance of the female spitting the eggs out or
swollowing them. So it's really a trial and error and see what
       your preference is.

I like to wait 2-3 weeks. Ideally
However if 3-4 days works for you do that. ;D

I don't think time matters - but don't do it in public! :o
(Sorry, but too many jokes came to mind with your title!)

So being probably the ONLY member here in the forums that does
not have (YET!) an African cichlid tank, what ARE the benefits
       of stripping the fry.
Benefits to the fish, or to the human?

I don't have African cichlids! I did have 4 yellow labs for
about three weeks once. But, I haven't ever really gotten into
the African's. I might have to though. John has a way of
showing off some very, very pretty and interesting fish.

Stripping basically eliminates possible "fish error". The female
can be spooked at any moment and spit or swallow the eggs.
There's also the fact that the female doesn't eat at all while
she's holding (I don't care what anyone says lol). So yeah there
       are benefits to stripping.
How long should you wait? There's really no right or wrong
answer as long as you give the eggs 3-4 days to make sure
they're gonna make it. Every day you wait is another day that
something could go wrong so to me the sooner the better but
       that's just me.
