We want to thank everyone for their input. It's given us a lot
to think about. The in-line filter sound interesting.
As far as filters go, my wife and I purchased a fluval fx6 for
this tank.

Good filter choice.
I only have Fluval heaters so cannot compare them with anything
else out there but have found them to be accurate and reliable
so far. 200W heater in a 30 gallon and a 300W in a 50 gallon.
Both have been going for 2 years so far with no issues. The 300W
is one of the slightly more hi-tech electronic readout ones and
requires a decent current in the tank to work properly but I
would consider that a good thing to allow better more even heat
distribution.

1 Jager 300 w should do the job, however you won't have a back
up if it stops working.
1 Jager 300 w does up to 1000L
They are pretty solid though and one of the better brands imho.

Eheim Jagers seem to do very large tanks with minimal wattage.
I have a 250W Jager on my 75 gallon and no problems there
keeping it at ~80 degrees. I think due to the very very long
design, they are more efficient than others. If you have the
room in the tank or don't mind the size of them, they are the
best in tank heaters IMO.
One thing I did do is place a bubbler below the heater so water
flows past it all the time and keeps the heat circulating(plus a
power head on the other end)

I did not realize there were so many different tank heaters. We
want to thank everyone for their input.
