Would need to know more about the tank. How long it's been set
up. What your water parameters are (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate).
What else is in the tank - what kind of substrate, decorations.
How the fish were behaving. Were they being shy? Hiding?
Hanging at the surface? As much info as you can give.

that's a bummer!
my first thoughts would be chlorine or chloramines not removed
from the water or an ammonia spike. but that's just a shot in
the dark. as mentioned by Jennifer more background information
would help.

One dead again :-X
jennifer,
it has been set up for more than one and half year and up until
now there was no problem
I don't know my water parameters and to be frank there are no
any test kits available in my country
They were not shy and were just fine and also eating nicely but
were hanging at the surface during the time of power cut
My tank is bare and have two caves for catfish

freddie,
My water don't have chlorine or chloramine cause I use water
from well but may contain iron and such but I keep it at least
for 1 week in container before adding it to the tank
and as for ammonia there is no way to know as I have stated
before

Probn, really sorry to hear of your loss.
Making the guess that you do water changes regularly, and as you
mentioned your using well water, I'd guess an aerosol cleaning
product. Even room fresheners sprayed close to your aquarium
can/will get into the water of a loosely covered tank.
How many fish do you have remaining?
Do you have enough water saved to do a 80% water change?
Best of luck to you in finding the problem.
Paul

after doing 80% water change this problem arised
Do dead fish if remained in a tank for a long time will harm
other fish?
I found one dead fish this morning which had disappeared from my
tank

You mentioned a power cut?!? I had a mystery illness that
killed off about 25% of my fish last year. Water parameters
were fine. I medicated as soon as the first one died, but there
was no stopping it. And it ended just as soon as it began.
Sometimes it just happens.

sorry to hear that
power cut is not a surprise here in my place
there is fixed time for electricity to come and then goes off
for about 8 hours daily electricity goes out

And to answer your question, if you have a dead fish in your
tank, your ammonia level will spike and that creates subsequent
nitrite and nitrate spikes. Which .. can cause other fish to
die which adds to the problem. :(
I think anyone who has been in the aquarium hobby long enough
has had that happen. It's never fun. I've had it happen a
couple of times where I had a test kit and tested, I knew there
had to be something causing the increased ammonia and I just
couldn't find until I basically ripped the tank apart. Which,
of course, if you're like me, you've done 3 water changes trying
to knock the nutrients down before it occurs to you that you
might have a dead something somewhere. (I keep mystery snails
to, oh, do they pollute a tank when they croak! And often, they
don't really look dead until you pick them up.)
Sorry you lost so many fish, but happy you got it figured out.
