has now ended" Malkos responded, propelling off his blade.
It started to glow a golden light as he slashed at Floriana.

Floriana coughed blood as the glowing blade sliced a deep cut in
her, but stood her ground.
"Yeah...that's about all I expected," she muttered, clutching
her injury with one hand but raising her wand.
"But I guess I...might as well stand up for something before I
die," she went on, conjuring a hemisphere of lightning to box
herself in with Malkos.

"Justice is an abstract, Mal. It can't help but prevail when the
winner says what justice is." Floriana said, smiling sadly as
the sword bit into her. Her spell flickered, but didn't release
either of them, and she put her hands on the blade as it cut
through her.
"...So long, kid. I hope your next teacher is better than me."
She sighed, before channeling a final, massive wave of
electricity through her own body...and the sword she was
touching.

An explosion of energy went through the entire room that was so
large even Altara stopped the ceremony to turn around
"F-Floriana? Floriana?!"
But as the smoke dissipated, Malkos still stood, clearly charred
and looking deathly at Altara.
"Princess, we have to finish the ceremony! We're almost done!"
Elixis pleaded as he quickly tried to continue and trying to
ignore the demon-like figure approaching them.

The slashes she had taken from Malkos would certainly have been
fatal, but Floriana had finished the job and died on her own
terms when she channeled her spell through her body to ensure it
struck him. She slumped to the ground, her body covered in burns
and the two deep cuts from Malkos, but a peaceful expression on
her face.
Despite Malkos's terrifying countenance and her own injuries,
Claudia still resolutely stood between him and the ceremony.
"Armani, stand back. If I fall, make sure Elixis has enough time
to finish."

"Will you all truly die to protect one puppet? Step aside. I
have no desire to kill everyone but I have no qualms with it as

"I didn't take my oath to an abstract ideal of strength or an
impersonal throne, Malkos." Claudia growled, standing her
ground.
"I took my oath to the king and to Altara. I swore to protect
them with my life. If the only way to do that is to die fighting
you, so be it."

"...I would have disregarded your words in the past...but you
have my respect now. The world needs knights like you, Claudia"

"At times like these, more than ever." Claudia said, glaring at
Malkos. She didn't know what was going on in Malkos's head, but
their plan had been to play for time; until it came down to
sword against shield, she'd keep him talking and then try to
last as long as she could.
