Guilty Conscience

Floriana paced the halls in an unusual state of agitation. She
really could do with a drink right now, but she didn't trust
herself with one.
She should feel fine, she told herself. She just had to keep out
of the way a little longer and then there would be no more
worries about the princess wearying of her and sending her away.
Nobody seemed suspicious. There should be nothing to worry
about.
But the thought she dearly wanted to drown but couldn't kept
coming back; she wasn't afraid of getting caught if someone
figured out what Malkos was up to.
She was afraid she was doing the wrong thing, and some instinct
she couldn't explain told her she was running out of time to
decide what to do.

Normally a maid would greet Floriana at this moment.
However, this time Malkos was at the end of the hallway as he
apporached "Floriana"

"!" Floriana blinked, adjusting her glasses to try and hide her
surprise at seeing Malkos this time of day.
"S-Sir Malkos."

"Are you busy, Floriana? Would you go on a walk with me?" Malkos
asked, stoically.

"I have nothing better to do. I'd be happy to." Floriana said,
recovering quickly from her surprise and nodding.

Malkos nodded "Follow me then" as he took the first steps toward
the garden.

Floriana followed Malkos, putting guilt from her mind for a
moment. She wasn't nervous about walking with him, at least.
Malkos had no reason to wish her harm. She'd agreed not to get
in his way, and he likely knew when he'd approached her about it
Floriana's magic made simply asking her not to take part in the
coup much simpler than attempting to hurt her.

Malkos didn't look at Floriana as he asked "How have you been,
