One Day To Make A Difference

Armani patrolled in hopes of figuring out some way he could hold
the castle with only a handful of defenders against its own
knights, but his findings were not hopeful. The castle wasn't
equipped for such a battle in peaceful times, and the enemy
commander would know the walls better than Armani himself did.
To avoid falling into despair, Armani forced himself to focus on
his advantages.
1. Malko had no idea someone knew he would attack tomorrow.
2. Armani knew from the previous loops that unless Malko was led
to do something different in this loop, he would leave the
castle with his followers in the evening. Armani might pretend
to go home, but he had no intention of actually doing so, unlike
last time.
3. That meant Armani could work through the night to deny Malko
what he was likely expecting; a quick, surgical coup that took
out the princess and those loyal to her before anyone knew what
was going on.
The main problems facing him, of course, were that nobody was
going to believe Malko would return at the head of a rebel army
when he left this evening, so Armani couldn't recruit aid until
the moment of truth...and the previous loop had shown Malko had
a plan in place, not just support he impulsively wielded against
his queen. Armani's almost immediate defeat meant he had no idea
if Malko had a contingency for someone anticipating his move.
As a result, Armani made up an excuse to run some errands in the
marketplace, searching for anything he could use to prevent
Malko and his traitors from re-entering the castle in the
morning after they'd left in the night.

Scarlett was not far off, shopping for supplies for the bar
later before it got too late.
She blinked in surprise as she saw the knight.
She walked over to Armani and smiled "Patroling hard, Sir
Knight?"

"Just doing some chores for the castle, miss." Armani said,
smiling disarmingly. He didn't want to look too stressed; if his
plan was to work, he had to act like nothing was wrong until
Malko was out of sight and unable to be influenced by his
behavior.

"Well, that's very nice of you to say." Armani said, smiling
back.
"Maybe you could help me. Do you know where I could get any
heavy building supplies? Wood and stone and such?"

strengthened. Even with things so peaceful, it's important to
maintain the place." Armani replied.
