Admin feedback - 19 February

Hi, all.
As mentioned in the base newsletter, there are a couple of
things still under review. We'll experiment to see whether a
separate sticky list for the LGW nightstops (MAD/INV/?) proves
useful. I've made the LIS one sticky as well, but I don't know
if out-of-base trips are regular enough to make it worthwhile.
The option is there to send emails; I've had one message
following one of the two emails I've received so far saying that
the person thought it was helpful. To participate, it makes
sense to sign up to one of the member groups (see here
HTML http://swapboard.createaforum.com/how-to-use-this-forum/how-to-use-this-forum-12/).<br
/>At the moment, only 13 people have, and several people have sa
id
that they would be very happy to revert to this kind of email
notification more often. If you send messages by email, please
bear in mind that the email will come from the board, rather
than you - so including your name in it would be helpful.
Another thing under review is having individual topics for every
swap request. Your thoughts on this are welcome. At the moment,
I'm still aiming to put all swaps for each rank under one topic
per day (though if people want to add details of nightstops in
the separate list, then that's fine), and if that's not how you
listed your topic, I may have moved it. This doesn't make it any
less visible in the list, but does mean that it is accessible
through the calendar.
Having just got back from being away for a few days, I've sat
down with my roster, and compared the days I want to swap with
what's on offer through the calendar (about three standbys, a
couple of nightstops) - which is how I envisaged using it. I
know that other people approach it differently, and it's quite
possible that I'm the weird one. If there is a way of making
this work that would be substantially better, please let me
know, and I'll see if we can make it work.
Paul

Hi Paul,
I'm not sure if you caught my facebook message, however a
suggestion I have is Monthly threads for what you have on offer
or are searching for. For example March early's for late's,
nightstops/trips, short duties for long, long duties for short
etc this way people can look for what they would like rather
than sifting through tens of posts for each day.
Cheers,
Callum

Yes, I did get it, thanks, but have been working. We've got a
couple of threads where that's in effect being tried out in the
captains' area, for a couple of different nightstop destinations
- people suggested it and started it, I made them "sticky" so
they stayed visible. People can always try the same thing, and
in the FOs area as well (registered users can start their own
thread) and if looks like a helpful way of doing things, I'm
more likely to run with it and see how it pans out - if people
find it useful, that's the evidence we need.
The old way meant that at least half of what we looked at wasn't
relevant to us. The current way means that at least we aren't
looking at things that are on our days off etc, which personally
I prefer (and is why I set it up like that) - but people may
feel that's too high a price to pay...
The bottom line is, I could do with more feedback. If people
want to use this in a different way - or if they think it's a
complete non-starter! - then there are alternatives, either here
or at least one person has been exploring another option. But I
could do with some definite weight of opinion about what would
be good. I promise I won't throw my toys out of the pram!
