PRIVACY - please read and respond

Concerns have been expressed regarding privacy of information on
here, as it is a "public forum" (insofar as anybody using the
       internet could land here).
As originally conceived, people would put the minimum possible
information in posts, and then use other users' registration
details to contact them directly - and those details can only be
read by other registered users (ie. they are not public). I felt
that an AIMS number was pretty cryptic to anybody outside the
intended user group, and yet was enough to permit a trip trade
to take place. The option to read and post as a guest was left
available as I didn't want to force people to have to register
or sign in if they preferred not to.
Also with regard to privacy, there is hardly anything in here at
the moment which talks about what this forum is actually about
(really!!) so you would have to come here deliberately . And
whilst it is not linked to anything else much on the internet,
it won't attract the attention of internet spiders or feature in
search engine results. So at the moment, my feeling is that it
is a low threat to privacy of information.
However, the option is available to make this forum less
publicly visible - this would mean that it is not included in
the Createaforum directory, and users will have to be registered
and login to use it. Over 110 people have registered already, so
the registration is less of an obstacle than I imagined it would
be. Would this be a preferable arrangement?
       Paul
