       Profile...Mentions

       Just this week, all my members said their profile button now has
       a [1] on it, and when you click,
       it drops down to mentions [1]
       What is this? And how do you get rid of it?

       If you disable @ mention system for posts.
       Do that under admin permissions then modify each group and
       remove "Mention members"

       I think I am seeing something similar.
       Members are seeing random numbers of Mentions in the Profile
       button on the Main menu banner.   This then proceeds to change
       randomly over time.
       I did see this myself a few weeks ago, but it stopped for me.
       I am still getting user reports, though.
       I tried the suggestion above (turning it off and then turning it
       back on), but that doesn't seem to have worked.
       Also, possibly related, when I go into the Profile|Mentions
       page, the links to pages 2.. 3.. are broken.   The popup address
       looks incorrect, and that's confirmed when you click it and it
       takes you to Profile|Track User.
