I'd like to link a Google sheets spreadsheet point tally to a
Profile Field I created for points. Is this possible and can it
be assigned by individual members as listed on the spreadsheet?

We do have a custom field feature. I think you can edit or make
it editable only by admin/mods you can use that store data.
Under admin -> feature and options -> profile fields.

I was able to create the profile field and a custom tab. I'd
like to know if it's possible to link the spreadsheet to
individual members to show their point earnings.
