Can i change what file types are acceptable? Becuz id like a gif
avatar...but its not moving... :'(

That normally occurs if you the file is too big or if it is
getting resized then it will no longer animate check your
attachment/avatar settings

Too big.
By default avatar is set for 65x65
Change:
Admin>Attachment and Avatars>Avatar Settings. Increase size to
at least 140x140 for animation to work.
