If the eagle is the icon for new posts, then there's a post that
you haven't read in that board. Looking at the image provided,
there's a new icon for the child board which indicates an unread
post

No the light is the icon for new posts. The Eagle was the
default new posts icon which I replaced with the the light.

Might I suggest you look here:

Using JSquery coding, you can force any image to become another
image with only a couple easy steps. ;D

After some research, I have found out that when new posts are
made in a child board, A different icon is used which is
slightly different to the new posts icon of the parent board.
This explains why the icon is incorrect. Now all to do is find
out exactly 'Which' icon I have to change to the icon I need.

Thanks for your suggestion but that isn't the solution to my
problem.
Cheers

I have figured out what the problem is and which icon to change
but it's not allowing me to change this icon. See image below
HTML http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/9208/childboardsicon.jpg
*I'm going to force the image change with a jscript in the
footer* If it doesn't work I will report back @AnonyMister, If
this works I owe you a beer. Thank you
**Further update** It worked ! forcing the change image with
jscript works like a charm. Thanks for the tip AnonyMister and
apologies for dismissing it beforehand.
